Too prude? Haha, I think you mean mature. Why do I want some overly sexed character on screen? If I want that, I'll go get a girl. Most people will do the same, or go browse for porn or pretty much anything else. They don't want it in a game as it adds nothing besides some teenagers (who is not getting any) fantasy. I would rather have an interesting character with depth and a good storyline rather than "OMG!  PIXEL BOOOOBS!".

Mature, prudish, sexualized, sexist. You can take whatever you want from it. And clearly you have. Your reactions to the media has already shown more about you than anything else. Art is supposed to evoke feelings from the people looking/listening/experiencing it and it clearly has. The real question is if you are willing to play it or if you're going to judge it based on its looks before reaching final conclusions.

because the logic at hand is that a female character that is sexually appealing to men can have no purpose other than to be a sexual object

even though sexually appealing characters in games do have strong roles in games such as bayoneta, the female characters in just about any fighting game, tomb raider, etc etc etc

in my opinion all it boils down into really is insecurity in women that are not as attractive as they'd like to be and so they take out their frustrations on their competition whether that be other women or sexualised media

You just have no clue about what Bayonetta is. Go get a WiiU if you don't have one yet and play the game when its out then you might understand.

You don't need to understand anything. It is some ridiculous character designed to get young teenage lads all excited, nothing more. It is perverted, it is degrading, and it is quite pathetic. But hey, if you think there is a reason besides that and why almost every Japanese game has women with impossible figures then by all means, go ahead and try to justify it as that will be amusing to see.

I haven't played the game but if the reviewer thought the game was sexists and it left a bad taste in his mouth, it means his experience was worse than it could've been and thus he is right in giving the game a lower score because reviews are opinions, no matter how you try to spin it. You can try to be as objective as possible but it's never fully possible because there is no general consensus about what quality is.

As for the game, I believe it's not sexist but I could definitely be wrong as I have not played the game and don't care about it either. Now take Dead or Alive for instance, and you do have a sexist game though.

Its not sexist, its artistic expression. Do people actually find bayonetta titillating or attractive though? Her proportions are so weird.
