Forums - Nintendo - Real reason big budget 3rd party games are not on Nintendo systems

But why should Nintendo pay for multiplats when nobody else does AND before you say they do, they don't.

Let's say what you are saying is true. I dont believe it but.... whatever. Why would Nintendo care about where third party publishers put their games?

That was a mistake on my part, I missed a couple of pages of the thread, and I thought you were the one arguing that Sony and MS pay for multiplats. It was another guy.

After all these years and people still dont know what Nintendo is as an enity? Why am I not shocked? As Perrin Kaplan said years ago during the Gamecube era, Nintendo is "not" a tech company, they are an entertainment company. They make hardware to have 100% contol of the development tool chain, 100% control over innovation (Wii Mote) and to create new revenue streams like Amiibo, N3DS faceplates, etc. Third party devs are not a key part of the equation.

then nobody should complain when they dont get 3rd party games

Exactly. But people should also not complain when Nintendo gets a third party exclusive.

there are way more people complaining about Nintendo not getting 3rd party games than Ninty getting 3rd party exclusive. Lets be honest. hell this thread is just a large collection of complaints.

The point is, people complaining about "X" multiplatform game not coming to Wii U are just as stupid as people complaining about "Y" third party game being exclusive to Wii U. More exclusive third party games are coming to Nintendo platforms in the future and more third party games will miss Nintendo platforms entirely. This has been going on since 1995.

well by that logic there are more stupid people complaining about games not coming to WIi U then. Thats my point.

But you said, MS and Sony don't have to pay. This isn't true at all. The implication is that Sony and MS made a deal or paid Rockstar for the right to have the game on their console. The PS4 and One versions just solidify this fact. You have no clear idea how the game industry works. These kind of deals go down all the time, don't be ignorant to that.

And you do? Are you someone high up in EA's power ladder? Do you have super secret spy technology to spy on all these unsavory deals going on behind closed doors in the industry? Are you some kind of omniscient being, one who sees all and knows all? Or is this just an assumption you're making based on jack shit that you like to still treat as the undeniable truth?

There is no such implication in what he said. You're just reading what you choose to believe into it. All he's saying is that the sales they expect GTA V would get on Wii U are not worth the time, effort and money that making the port would require.

Publishers release games on their consoles because they want those millions and millions and millions of sales. They don't need any more incentives than that, and they won't risk missing out on those millions and millions and millions of sales just because one of the two didn't fall for their extortion, especially since if neiter one falls for it, they either don't release it and let all the money they invested in the game go to waste, or they release it on both consoles anyway and lose their power over the two, since now they know they can just not pay the publishers and still have the game come out on their console.

Wow, you actually believe that Sony and Microsoft pay for multiplat games don't you?

Wow, you actually believe they dont. Christ man, grow up and see the truth for what it is. We all accept it as it is, why the fuck question it?

I could ask you the same.

I wasn't even questioning it.

Then let the stupid people complain. You know what they say, "empty vessels make the most noise". Just ignore them.

Bottom line, people aren't buying the Wii U because they want to play 3rd party games.

Even when the Wii U was getting those games, nobody was buying them. Granted the ports were inferior or lacked DLC, but better ports wasn't going to have much impact. 3rd party games sold better on the original Wii and those vastly inferior.

People interested in core 3rd party games will continue to buy PS4, X1, or even PS3 and 360 for a few more years.

Nintendo just needs to continue doing what it does best. Hopefully Wii U can achieve 25 or 30 million console sales which is a large audience for Nintendo to push its wares on.

Yep. By the time Nintnendo even remotely gave a damn about third party it was alreadt too late. They watched all the money Sony and MS were making last gen off of third party and decided to play ball. I remember about reading that when the Nintendo revealed their third party partners at E3 2012. Nintendo never listened to third parties requests a year earlier for all consoles to be of a specific spec type so the next generation of games could be put on it. Obviously they had no listened. Nintendo's internal disagreements and squabbles with third parties is the reason for their downfall with third party. The hubris level is insane especially for such a talented company.

Even if Nintendo was more accomodating to 3rd parties, they weren't going to get the core audience. That ship sailed with the Wii.

Why would core gamers buy another Nintendo console for those types of games? They already learned their lesson with the Wii.

While Wii U was getting some core games, it was still getting passed on for some noteworthy games like GTAV, BFIV, Destiny, sports games, etc.  So it makes more sense to get a 7th gen console over a Wii U unless you REALLY want Nintendo games.

The multiplat gamers Nintendo had fled after the SNES era when devs cited the superiority of CD's and Nintendo's reverting back to the cartridge as a reason to support Sony. For four generations gamers who wanted just a bit more out of Nintendo outside of exclusives were conditioned to go outside for their gaming. The CD was Nintendos reason for bringing Sony into the gaming industry (well not Sony's but the went behind Sony's back and used the services of Yamuchi). After that they did business with Panasonic when they went and did business with SOny.

The Wii U in terms of power was a joke to most third party devs. Again...Nintendo made the device to serve their own ends and forced third party to make exclusives if they wanted to profit and make a game enjoyable enough for the console. Most of the gamers were cheaply made because third party (generally westerners) saw the Wii as a casual cash grab.
