Bottom line, people aren't buying the Wii U because they want to play 3rd party games.
Even when the Wii U was getting those games, nobody was buying them. Granted the ports were inferior or lacked DLC, but better ports wasn't going to have much impact. 3rd party games sold better on the original Wii and those vastly inferior.
People interested in core 3rd party games will continue to buy PS4, X1, or even PS3 and 360 for a few more years.
Nintendo just needs to continue doing what it does best. Hopefully Wii U can achieve 25 or 30 million console sales which is a large audience for Nintendo to push its wares on.
