I don't understand why people want motion blur so much btw, it totally fucks up your gaming experience IMO, you can't see things as well when blur is happening, absolute shit compromise for 30FPS gaming.

I am not trying to put you down, the PS4 is just slightly less than twice as powerful as your system. Deal with it - Oh wait you have because you are upgrading. Sorry a pet peave of mine is PC people with average rigs that lie to themselves about how weak the PS4 is so they can justify not getting one. If you don't want one that's fine, but let's not pretend it is because yours is stronger. It's because you don't want to spend the money (Which is a valid reason). |
Buying a console that runs games on parity with my three year old rig would be like buying an xbox one when you already have a ps4. For people who are die hard fans of certain franchises it might be worth it. For nearly everyone else it doesn't make sense.
PC/XB1/PS4 are so similar right now that owning one is more than enough for nearly anyone. Instead I decided to supplement my PC with a Wii U which actually has an extensive gaming library that I can't just play on my PC or PS3.
As for the reason some PC gamers love poking fun at PS4 gamers, it is the same reason some PS4 gamers love poking fun at XB1 gamers. They get to play games at prettier settings than you. Yay them.

Its 1080p/30FPS, watch the whole video. He's recorded it at 720p.
The whole point is he's running med/high on a HD6800-series with a potato CPU (an Anthlon II X3...).

Yep, that was the whole point of that link.
Yes, the PS4 settings are definitely higher, and if given a choice between playing on a PC with a 6850 and a PS4, I'd take the PS4 version 10/10 times, but it's still very playable at 1080p on PC provided you adjust the settings correctly.
People see benches of all high or all ultra settings and think that things like 6850 are nearly useless, when that's not the case.
Shadows and lighting settings along with AA are murderers of FPS, and the game can still look good with those dialed back a bit, while keeping textures at the limit of your VRAM (and we can tell that 'high' works fine with 1GB cards honestly).

Are you being sarcastic? Well I will bite. It actually is less of a difference because of the law of depreciating returns. The difference between 480 and 720 is 240p but it is bigger of a difference than 720 and 1080 which is 360p |
If you're an Xbox gamer it is.
Of course, I'll give you guys the benefit of the doubt and just assume that you're just comparing 480i on a CRT TV vs 720p on a LCD TV. However, the difference isn't quite as big if you compare both 480p and 720p on the same LCD TV. Regardless, I have a 1080p TV, so I prefer the console that is actually going to make use of it.

Indeed, but the 6850 is also an ancient (and out of production) card at this point. The 7770 is roughly comprable, running around 80-100$ without discounts, or you can move up to an actual good card in 7870/R9 270 for ~150$ without even hunting for discounts, come BF they will be even cheaper. The latter will likely run SoM well above anything the PS4 can do, and you can run with a cheap Anthlon without bottlenecking.
Textures will be limited to high by VRAM unless you go into high-end territory.
I can't and won't deny that newer and better cards are just plain better, but old cards can still work well with sane settings unless they're super outdated (460 768mb for example is a tough one these days at 1080p, but works well at 720p).
I run SLI 770 4GB FTW Edition cards, with an eye on a pair of 970OC 4GBs on BF. But I am the guy that ends up building everyone else's PCs, and many guys have super limited budgets, so used 6850 at $40 is hard to pass up for those wanting a dirt cheap gaming box. I've helped a lot of people build capable units for $200-250 :)

R9 270's are not too hard to find at a pretty cheap price, especially used. Unless the budget is really, really limited I'd go with that and a cheapo CPU like the Athlon or Pentium. You'd get the most out of the card for the CPU power given, and the CPUs are like 60-70$, and the cards aren't impossible to find below 100$. At that point you're already past what the consoles can do on a good day.
