zero 129 Yet after almost a year this gap has not gotting bigger or smaller. that higher ceiling has been being used already and thats why PS4 games look better then X1 games, and that 40-50% on Paper wont be as noticable with your eyes as long as PS4 keeps doing 1080P and x1 keeps doing 900P, imo if the PS4 dropped its res down to 900P too you would notice that extra power more..

huh,how do you know this,,why not just keep it at 720p than and use the resource power saved on pixels towards other things?... who sits 100 miles away from their screens? of course you can see the extra sharpness. when i played black flag when it was first 900p and then went up to 1080p after a patch, the difference was quite big imo,the textures stood out a lot more, foliage stood out like crazy at 1080p,i was seeing added leafs that were looking invisible at 900p,i had no idea they were there...

the difference will grow in favor of the ps4 IF the devs dont choose near parity,,if they dig deep/hard into the gpgpu compute. gpgpu compute between both consoles is ridiculous in favor of the ps4,the difference will stand out.the power is there... though im not holding my breath for that with multi plat games

Nvm.

Actually, I think there will be devs who'll still push towards the uncanny valley.  But, I think it'll reach a plateau and then they'll just start to expand, bigger worlds, larger ambition etc...  the hardware in both machines allow for it, but the PS4 certainly has the higher ceiling.  But yeah, what would Quantic be doing if they weren't trying to make some realistic emotional rollercoaster heh

What? Either you're misusing that term or I have no idea how it came into this convo.

Ahh I just misread what he said.  No big deal.

Keep in mind, I only have the slightly faster 560Ti in my machine, so I'm not hating on PC here.  But, you can't expect a modified APU that's been out for less than a year to have the same kind of API refinement as a GPU that's been out for 4 years.

Ehh, with Maxwell's release, and the Pirate Islands and the new memory standard (HBM) coming early 2015, the standard prices of old GDDR memory is going to plummet. AMD will already have to cut prices to keep their old gen in the race against the Maxwell line when the 960 launches (which will be cheaper than the 970 by a good margin). GPUs that far outstrip the PS4/X1 will be easily affordable on a budget within a few months. In fact the HBM reveals are really going to ramp up the developments on the GPU end, and we're going to see prices of old cards drop off fast.

HBM is going to really change the game on the APUs side of the market too, leading to even better budget builds with built in graphical capabilities at budget prices.

Everything else can already be had at a decent price without much trouble by finding deals or shopping circa Black Friday. You can already build to or beyond the specs of the consoles on a budget of 400-500$ (give yourself an extra 50$ for not having to pay for PSN+ or XBL), and in a years time it will be even easier to completely blowpast the current consoles with a small budget. Once the basic architecture of a PC is built for a person, they can and will always be ahead of the console curve if Sony/MS stick to x86 architecture on both price and performance because the majority of the guts will never need changing outside of some unforseen failure, like your RAM, PSU, Mobo/CPU, etc....

Eh?  I wasn't commenting on any of that (Given there are cards already out that butcher the consoles, it's...pretty logical to assume more will come, and prices will fall hehe).  Simply the silliness of expecting a brand new API to be as refined as that of a 4 year old card (that's wasn't a slouch either).  And I also pointed out in an earlier response that there are cards that can easily destroy the PS4/XB1...hell, combined.  Titan Z and R295X2 have nearly 3x and 4x the performance of both consoles together, respectively.  I was actually curious though, the cards that murder other tech are easy to point out, but what cards/PC setups are 'slightly' better...like, where's the break even point.

But you see your the one who for a start asked for a break even point, and then when i pointed out that my old 6870 could still match the newer gen consoles (That should give you a very good break even point like you where asking for!) you started stating that thats pretty obvious since devs have had 4 years to "Refine" for the 6870 O_o but yet i was only giving you what you asked. Now all you need to do is see what newer low end cards match the 6870 and bam you have your break even point .

Your old ass 6870 doesn't hold a candle to the PS4 lol.  The PS4 is basically an HD 7870 (Some things are a little worse, some things are a little better), and the 7870 is double your card.  I own a 6870 btw.

Clearly you dont or else you must have it mixed with some pretty bad hardware if you think it doesnt hold a candle to the PS4. And if you think im lying like clearly you are all you have to do is look at my steam profile and look at some of my old pics and try tell me again it doesnt hold a candle to it. Btw heres my profile http://steamcommunity.com/id/mcdgray129

And some pics

Now care to tell me again how the PS4 is Destorying my 6870??

LMAO!  A $30 hd 6450 can render those screenshots!  But at what framerate?  Lets see you run the Shadow of Mordor in 1080p with above low textures...Oh wait you can't!

Edit: You're Sleeping Dogs pic kinda looks like garbage compared to the settings I am used to. (only one I bothered to look at)

Guys, quote trees. Cut the quote trees!

Uh, a 6850 1GB will run SoM like this smoothly :

1080p
Medium Textures
Medium Shadows

No problem. If it's a 2GB model you could even set textures to high without slowing down. Shadows and AA are the killers.

Anyway, here's a 6850 + a potato CPU running it playably :

Paired with a less horrible CPU it would be fine, particularly with a light GPU OC.

PS4 is better than a 6870 for sure, but at the same time the 6870 is still a decent gaming card with sane visual settings.

Now the 970 OC editions, those are sweet :D

Why even use the 6870 as a basis of comparison though? I mean, its cheap but for a few bucks more you may as well get an actual good card, and those will easily throw these comparisons on their head.

blow the ps4 out of the water? just like shadow of morder needs crazy hardware to max it out yet it doesn't blow the ps4 version out of the water. It stands up to it fairly well. You shouldn't exagerate! The PS4 is the perfect level of graphics for the forseable future.

Well then if we are going by what you are saying here since on paper if i added a new GFX card to my PC it would blow the PS4 out of the water (Even if many devs never took use of it this gen) The Ps4 is only a tiny bit more powerful then the X1 and will never look much better then it even if on paper its 40-50% more powerful, see how that works?? .

It means that the PS4 being 40% or whatever more powerful than the X1 results in some games looking a bit better and some looking the same. There are games on PS3 that stand up to games on the PS4. Game developers will hardly ever utilize the power of the high end PC's at the time. Unless you build it for the odd graphical show piece it's an utter waste of money building a really high end PC especially if you play games for fun.

I've gamed on PC and I'm more than happy buying a cheapconsold (PS4) as it easily satisfies my graphical needs and then has a ton of great games I like.
