I'm  not arguing what requires more talent, doesn't really matter.

I'm simply making the point it still takes talent to keep an established IP great.

I noticed Forza Horizon 2 is scoring very well. That's what a talented team can do even if they didn't create the IP.

I was saying that to explain you we dont know if they could do a better Killzone than Killzone dev since they never made anything else. ( and Killzone 2 is a great game , better than any Halo made by 343 based on Meta)

Killzone 2 was over rated. Its one of the best reviewed games that faded into obscurity.

Killzone is an example of creating IPs is easier than keeping them great.

Yes but it recquires much more talent to create their own IP, so we wont know if they can until they do

That's the problem with MS's studios. They're largely unproven with very shallow resumes. We all saw how Halo 4 was a step down from previous iterations. Gears Judgement was a huge step down and there's a lot of pressure on Blacktusk to resurrect that quality of the Gears before Judgement. Even if they manage to bring back the quality of existing franchises, they need to diversify. People don't want to just be playing the same thing.

Also, we don't know if these devs can be actual good game developers until they do other stuff outside of Halo and Gears. It's easy to build off of an existing story. However, try to make your own original story with your own characters, setting, gameplay mechanics, etc. It's a lot more difficult. You don't want your game to just be another "Insert title here". Otherwise, it'll just fall in obscurity.

im the onlyone that dont care if MS or SONY LOOSS money by paying for exclusive cont, games, time excl,,
im just look at the trailer ,demo.of the game .etc, if i like it , i go to the store and grab it .. simple

"make good games and ppl will buy it soon r later.".

Halo 4 is not a step down, great game. Destiny was a step down.

People do want to keep playing the same thing. Which is why established IPs keep selling well and people buy new IPs that are like old IPs.

If its easy to build off an existing IP, then why have so many IPs gotten shitty? I'd argue creating new IPs is just as difficult as keeping an old IP interesting. Like I said before, Sony is a company that has struggled to keep many of its IPs interesting.

Sony's new IP development this gen? Like uh, Knack? I guess you have some killer inside information on loads of new Sony IP's no one knows about.

Edit, Driveclub! I forgot Sony bought Evolution Studios.

You're missing Bloodborne and The Order.  There's also new IPs launching from at least 3 other studios that haven't been announced, yet.  Not that that is what this thread is about.

Nah, his shtick is content developed internally. Neither of those games you listed are developed internally. RAD is an outside company and Sony has a studio "consulting" or whatever with FS for Bloodborne, but FS are the ones developing it. Idc about unannounced stuff either.

I agree, and this is why i prefer Sony studios, they always try new things, they know it's time to let it go, they even dare to let go big IP

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Yep, and that's why Sony has been doing a lot better than MS in this year's games conferences overall. Sony demonstrated that they want to take more risks and explore different ideas. However, Microsoft's conferences, while decent, were too safe. When you look at some of Sony's announced games like The Tomorrow Children, Alienation, Wild, Abzu, Rime, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and No Man's Sky, the uniqueness of these games really stand out. Also, check out the characters and their backstories for Without Memory. I really like the concept, thus far.

Even looking at multiplat new IPs like Watch Dogs and Destiny, they're unique in their own ways. While a lot of us has found either one or both underwhelming, they still have their own charms. And who's to say that they won't improve in their next iterations? Heck, who's to say that the current Destiny will be like Destiny a year later?

Long story short, new ideas and original concepts drive the gaming industry. It's a lot harder to come up and execute those ideas and concepts in comparison to already having a foundation to build off of.

I'm very easily bored with video games when they are not unique ( and nowadays, it's hard with FPS, there is so much FPS, it looks like i'm always playing the same game, except for things like Dishonored or Deux Ex), that's why i think this philosophy is the best, but i guess others dont need new IP's and are satisfied with Fifa/GTA/COD/AC because they have low expectations on video games, like people who listen mainstream music/movies and are not interested in deepest works, i think if you really like video games, you like this philsophy of trying new things

Or like Guerilla going from FPS to a AAA open world RPG, that's a huge risk too, the best being Japan Studio of course, i'm amazed they allowed a game like Puppeter exist.

I check every new informations on Without Memory, look forward to see russians skills when it comes to Heavy Rain like, the game seems ambitious

As a musician, I wholeheartedly agree with this and the comparison. Not all new IPs will be successful. Some have gotten a lot of attention like Journey. Others, like Rain and Puppeteer didn't make headlines, but they were still very good games. If no one takes risks and try something new, everyone's game libraries will become monotonous and stale.

On a side note, cut the quote trees
