It is a game more likely expanded through DLC than new entries to the franchise. If a game like this does happent to a 3rd entry then I see it no more than 10+ years from now.

Of course I can be wrong, but then I also be a bit disappointed since I don't like dumping hundred of hours and then have to buy a new game and start over again.

Bungie has stated that they want to see this game last 10 years, and that they can see it going as far as a trilogy.  I don't personally see how the two would work with a company feeling "liberated" when they were able to step away from Halo after ~10 years, unless they plan to support Destiny 1 while also working the sequels in.

Do you see that as downplaying? It just didn't meet my (high) expectations.

Maybe you should read your own posts, that's what is usually called downplaying. You think the biggest new IP EVER won't make it to a third iteration??? And the publisher is Activision??? Do you know how that sounds?

Many users were expecting a lot more from Destiny, but not me! I think this is pretty good!

My guesstimations for the sales split:

Destiny PS4 - 2.5m
Destiny X1 - 1.4m
Destiny 360 - 630k
Destiny PS3 - 470k

Total - 5m

Digital might add another few hundred k.

Shareholders seem to be disappointed. Not sure what they expected, lol. Maybe they're worried about the future of the IP after the reviews.

Destiny is a game that will improve over time. It's great as is and i've already sunk about 30 hrs of my free time into it. Word of mouth OUTSIDE the internet is great as far as i've heard.
