Forums - Gaming - Destiny grosses over $325 million worldwide in first five days

I expected much higher actually. The $500m was just shipped numbers. Both the reviews and sales are lower than what almost everyone was predicting.

It's baffling how most people try to believe the $500 million budget despite numerous articles from Activision refuting the claim.

So no, the budget for the first Destiny game has never been $500 million, so stop making it look like so.

Wait... weren't their tons of articles saying they made 500 mill in one day? Wtf... And I wonder what the net profit is too

Activision did make $500 million, through sales to retailers (and digital downloads) who have now made back $325 million selling to their customers.

so 325 million is profit then?

Praise the One.

Huh... I expected higher... I guess it's going to be some time before they cover up that $500million after all.

I thought I read somewhere that they were already at 500 million, I guess that was pre-mature.

It did ship $500 mill at launch but currently sell-through is "only" $325+ mill.

Ahh... I see. Thanks!

Nice avatar.

Thanks. Nice sig :)

hmm...I wonder if they'll sell through that originally shipped $500M soon.

I have been telling people not to buy Destiny. Oh, well, it is good to see profit in gaming. Activision has a very solid record at this and hopefully it continues.

$325 million revenue.

Less than $200 million would go to Activision due to retailers and platform holders taking their cuts.

So if we assume the budget plus marketing for Destiny is $250 million, then the game would still be in red.

Fir comparison I think Halo 3 and Halo 4 each managed about 300m in the same time frame on one platform.

Not a good comparison as Destiny is a new IP. We can wait for Destiny 3 and 4 to see how your comparison fairs.

no. Its revenue at retail.

I am pretty sure it's total revenue. Meaning the $325 million figure includes both retail and digital sales.

Less than GTA V. Looks like it still has their biggest opening week.

Well, of course. There's no way Destiny would sell more than GTA V in its opening week.
