Wait... weren't their tons of articles saying they made 500 mill in one day? Wtf... And I wonder what the net profit is too

Activision did make $500 million, through sales to retailers (and digital downloads) who have now made back $325 million selling to their customers.

so 325 million is profit then?

$325 million revenue.

Less than $200 million would go to Activision due to retailers and platform holders taking their cuts.

So if we assume the budget plus marketing for Destiny is $250 million, then the game would still be in red.

Activision's revenue for Destiny is $500 million, they do not sell the copy's to retail at retail price they are discounted ($40-45 is standard)  so there are a lot of currently unsold copies out there.

Activsion sold between 11-12.5 million copies to retail  in 1 day and retail have now sold 5.4 million of them to customers.

So in 5 days 43% - 49%  sell through.

You are correct.

Though it is worth mentioning that if many copies are left unsold, retailers may demand Activision to either push for discount or return the unsold copies to Activision.

So I think it's more fair to strictly talk from the sell-through generated revenue, which's final.

Oh and due to digital version of games becoming more prominent, the unit figures you have stated might not be entirely accurate.

Isn't that like 5.5 million?

That's well below some of the expectations I was hearing.

That's only around 5m in 5 days, if we assume the average price is $70 (higher average in Europe and rest of world than the US + special editions). I expected more. So did ioi a few weeks back when he said he could see 10m+ FW.

Wonder if that number includes Destiny bundle (whatever Activision gets from that) and digital.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Fir comparison I think Halo 3 and Halo 4 each managed about 300m in the same time frame on one platform.

Not a good comparison as Destiny is a new IP. We can wait for Destiny 3 and 4 to see how your comparison fairs.

not sure it gets that far to be honest.

A game that sells this well in a couple of days is not getting that far? lol do you know how the gaming industry/business works?

I believe he meant Destiny won't get to a Destiny 3 or 4.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

??? are you saying they stop making destiny games??? or that they will just keep making expansions to one game instead of making new games???

Honestly, I don't see how it is even possible that Destiny doesn't make it to 3 or 4 iterations... This was the biggest launch of a new IP ever, that alone will probably net it 3 or 4 sequels, even if each subsequent sequel underperforms (something I don't see happening with bungie at the helm...)

people are downplaying this? fantastic.
