Forums - Sales - Exclusive Marketing -> Sales: Does it Blend?

How effective is exclusive marketting today? At one point, I was hearing things about exclusive marketing being as good as having the game exclusive, and maybe for like COD, that worked but then again can we directly attribute that to Exclusive marketting alone? I dont know if that's the case anymore, or even at all. Thoughts?

Well... For the uninformed, it works very well but for the informed, it works a lot less

All that matter is that console manufacturers think it works.

Well, exclusive marketing seems to work very well.......with those who have no idea of course!

When you have exclusive marketing and a special edition console it works pretty damn well.

How did it not work for destiny? The destiny bundle is ranking higher than the highest XBO SKU on the amazon yearly charts.

It depends I think. It works for games like WD and Destiny because they're new IP, which makes it easier to dupe people into thinking it's truly exclusive. With games like CoD or AC, everyone knows they come out on everything so it's a lot less effective.

It also has to do with install base. It's a lot easier for it to be effective for Sony since they're already doing very well. For MS, it's an uphill battle in every way.

I am very sure it works quite well for casuals (read: people who don't spend several hours a week to keep informed). And these people are by far the majority so of course this makes a huge difference.
