It depends I think. It works for games like WD and Destiny because they're new IP, which makes it easier to dupe people into thinking it's truly exclusive. With games like CoD or AC, everyone knows they come out on everything so it's a lot less effective.
It also has to do with install base. It's a lot easier for it to be effective for Sony since they're already doing very well. For MS, it's an uphill battle in every way.
