Some of you are already proclaiming games that aren't even out as the best of the best... Says a lot about your objectivity. -___-
OP: I don't think Bayonetta 2 will get that award. It will most likely get very good reviews, but if it's not a game made by Nintendo, in-house, like a Super Mario game, then the press hardly ever consider those. And besides, maybe the game will end up being a mess, or a love it or hate it kinda thing.
Even if it gets th best rating of the year it won't become GOTY.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah, I was wondering that myself. I know for a fact that Super Mario Galaxy won game of the year in 2007 from both IGN and Gamespot (probably other places as well). |
The reason why I brought this up in partcular is because it's well known since there are actuall awards given. When it comes to (what Mr Kahn said) no doubt in my mind that it wll probably win GOTY among various websites. I guess the aggregate awards didn't cross my mind. It's just that the moment I read the op, I thought of the VGX instead.

Why does it look deserving of it, over everything else? Other than the fact that it's on your favoured console?

Perhaps the struggle to make it happen is worthy of praise in itself. Or one man's battle to beat back the tsunami of haters on a social networking site while he should be getting work done / sleeping. Or maybe because it's not on somebody's favoured console.

Well, you and me, we share the same timezone. Now explain me why aren't you sleeping or working at 7:18 am.

The considerable quantity of gameplay released so far looks like it has an impeccable sense of fluidity, scale, and intensity, along with a wonderfully unhinged sense of fun. In other words, like the first game, which was spectacular, but now refined.

Because I don't know the reason for any of these things!
