Forums - Gaming - Could Bayonetta 2 Have A Shot At GOTY?

I love Bayonetta, but the game definitely won't EVEN be a contender for GOTY. I love the enthusiasm though. Still picking up B2 though.

By that logic you might aswell say that CoD is the best game ever. Popular and quality are not a 1 to 1 ratio.

What about Tetris?

We have a winner! ^^

The outrageousness is what makes Bayonetta great; every time you think you've seen it all, it throws you into driving a motorbike up the side of a rocket leaving the atmosphere, or flying a hijacked missile. It's enormously fun and refreshing.

God of War 3, while mechanically solid, has nowhere near the same level of creativity.

Why do you keep comparing it to God Of War 3? Also, you think GOW3 lacks creativity compared to Bayonetta?! That's simply false.

GOW does have a very deep combat system which you will see for yourself if you play the games on Hard or Very Hard Mode.

Also combat isn't everything in a hack and slash game. It is a lot, but not everything. Your statement completely ignores the accomplishments of GOW in terms of epic sense of scale, boss fights, intense atmosphere, combination of puzzles and combat and the deep narrative.

Bayonetta can still hold its own somewhat against GOW in terms of combat, but not in any of the other things I mentioned.

It's clear the majority don't care for precise or excessively deep combat as long as it's fun & accessible, thus GoW's popularity & acclaim. People need to realise that GoW's combat isn't designed to be as technical as those Japanese hack 'n' slash games.

GoW3 is pretty much objectively #1 in its genre. It's the most acclaimed and with over 5 million fans and sales well over 6 million units, it's significantly more popular than everything else. You don't have to agree personally but your opinion represents a tiny minority.

And no, Bayonetta 2 doesn't have a shot, games in this genre rarely win many GOTY awards, it might just win a couple if it's at least as good as the first.

What are you talking about? I am VERY much a huge fan of GOW, and was praising it. Maybe you interpreted it wrongly. Still I believe GOW's combat is fun and accessible at lower difficulty levels, but on Hard and Very Hard mode it really shows how deep it is. There's a reason why fans play each game all over again on Very Hard mode.

Bayonetta's mindless fun is not creativity.

Anyways I can compare GOW and Bayonetta to two other franchises, to make it more clear. Bayonetta is like the Saint's Row of hack n slash game, fast, fun for some time, overly stylish, but ultimately lacking substance. GOW is like GTA of hack n slash games, takes its gameplay seriously while being a fun game throughout, reaching new heights in epicness and scope and having a story which makes sense, and is easily the best in the genre.
