Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 is the most innovative 8th gen console by a mile. haters be damned!

The PS4 imo has a solid grasp for being the best console in innovation. The controller has a six axxis position senser (dosen't use a camera for tracking), touch pad works great and can be programmed to be used in hundereds of ways, speaker in the controller adds emmersion.

Vita with remote play is really spectacular, very cool feature.

Having a PS4 gets that foot in the door being V.R. ready when the time comes. Really excited about this. Can really get a leap in an experiance all its own. Project Morpheus is a huge endeaver to behold.

Can do voice commands like the X1 so that cancels them out.

Has cross buy and play, that adds extra value when used.

Thing about PSnow is that its still in beta and it ssomething that doesn;t have to take off overnight. I just think that its good to know that its there and maybe sometime down the road it will actually become an outlet for current gen game rentals too.

As for the innovations that are on XB1 too... in all fairness sony annouced them first :)

For Sony... it sort of does need to make a profit and it has to take off quickly to really make returns on the R&D and server costs. They don't have the financial stability to sit around and wait for this to actually take off... and if other services are any indication, it may not turn into anything but a massive failure.

As for the list... Share Play was/is already on the NDS/3DS for multiplayer games. VR existed ages ago with virtual boy.

Jesus Christ.

You spent time explaining every PS4 "innovation" in great detail and told people to respect it, even if they don't like it personally, just to do the opposite and delegate 1 sentence remarks to the other two, just to dismiss them as gimmicks or whatever other insult you cooked up.

You don't need to undercut the innovations of the other two consoles to compliment those of Sony. You know when people need to insult other companies to say how much they like Nintendo games? I'm sure you hate that.

And the "anyone who disagrees are haters" crap. Come on dude.

I wanted to take this seriously. You had good points as to what Sony is doing. And then you screwed it up by, yes, being incredibly biased.

Also, Xbox One does many of the sane things but just copied Sony. PS Move is similar to Wiimote and it's "innovation that was developed at the same time but happened to come out later" according to the internet.

At least one person is going to calk me salty, but whatever.

Innovation is a word thrown out a lot in this industry. publishers cant make a statement without using the word, and every damn game is filled with innovation according to its publisher. heck, every call of duty is the pinnacle of innovation if we are going by how much activision uses that word. The word however, isnt just used in press releases, its also used by the fans. "i dont care about graphics, all i care about is gameplay and innovation!", "i wish developers would stop rehashing the same old game and innovate for once!" are just some of the usual statements made us, the self entitled gamer.

Of course, we, the self entitled gamers are experts when it comes to innovation, we can sense it tingling against our ball sacks when ever it is present. and thus we have used our magic abilites not just to judge the innovation in games, but also on the hardware.

Nintendo has been credited a lot for its "innovative" WiiU, and Microsoft has bragging about its innovations in power of the cloud and kinect. while i heard the term of the PS4 being a "PS3.5" many many times. and while i certainly do not say that what i read on the internet and what i saw as a general consciousness around the forum to be an actual representative of reality, i am here to set things straight, even if its just for my own tiny little heart to feel better.

List of PS4 "Innovations"

-DVR capibilites. recording 15 minutes of gameplay and uploading them in a touch of a button. (XB1 only offers DVR capaibilites this gen along with PS4, WiiU doesnt)

- Streaming gameplay. streaming is big now, whether people accept it or not. (again, XB1 offers streaming, WiiU doesnt)

- Game Streaming (PS Now). for those who arent interested in the service, let me tell you this, i am not either, however you cant deny that this is something that PS4 offers, and the others dont. even after all those claims of MS with the "powa of da cloud".

- Virtual Reality. a completely new way of experiencing gaming, and so far, Sony is the only one doing it. whether you like it or not the potential of VR is huge, and PS4 is at the forefront when it comes to VR on consoles.

- Share Play. a wonderful feature that lets any of your friends play a game on your console through the internet. this is a first, new and awesome feature when it comes to sharing games, playing co-op or playing online together. and niether the XB1 or WiiU are doing it.

while WiiU slapped a screen on the controller and Microsoft made kinect for better voice commands apperantly, the PS4 really provided the biggest step when it came to a generations leap. of course, this is all my humble opinion, and i eagerly await for those who will call me biased, but the proof is right there, the PS4 is doing a lot of things the compitition is not. while the compitition offered gimmicks and fads in the shape of a screen on a controller and kinect and tried their best to claim innovation, pretty much in the same manner like bobby kotic calls innovation with call of duty.

Thank you so much!  People may call me a PS fanboy all the time, but the fact is I always choose what I feel is the best console of a generation.  I chose the PS4 because of its amazing sharing features (Which are leaps and bounds better than the Xbox One's), modern graphics, and a truly innovative controller.

I don't think ps3.5 is a bad thing for Sony. Innovation isn't the only thing that matters.

The Wii U's gamepad gets silly amount of hate (From people who've never used one) but it is great and offers genuine gameplay improvements when utilised. Unlike streaming gameplay it's far far from a gimmick. The fact you could dismiss it whilst defending streaming gameplay is beyond me.

Kenect wasn't really used fully and now will be largely abandoned, but yes it was innovative. Being innovative involves taking risks with new things. Sometimes it doesn't work out but good for Microsoft for trying. Like with Sony's vr, we'll have to wait and see what xbox's cloud power can do in the future and what innovation it gives.

Some of Sonys online features are really nice. They have their strengths but there's no point being a blind fanboy in blindly dismissing the other consoles strengths.

1.)  X1 had DVR capabilities (so not innovative).

2.) X1 has gameplay streaming too.

3.) While this is inovative, PS Now is comming to PS3 & other devices such as smart TVs & Computers even, so it isn't really a PS4 specific inovation.

4.)  VR is inovative, buuuuuut, Playstation is not the only folks doing this, nor were they the first.  Oculus Rift was the first to really take off, and typically the first people to come out with a viable new technology are considered the true 'inovators', and every one else just copies them.  Also the VR headset doesn't come with every PS4, so once again it would not even be the PS4 itself that is inovative here, but rather the headset itself.  It would be like saying X360 was inovative because of Kinect when Kinect was clearly an optional accessory.

5.)  Only thing on the list that I thought was truly inovative.

Technically, no. 5 had been done by Steam and in a much better way, imo (family share)

Going solely by consoles, though, it is pretty innovative.

If the morpheus is a success, then I will totally agree. None of the consoles stepped it up in innovation and especially not the Wii U gamepad. Where is the innovation in that? Kinect is a bust so that's out of the question.

At least Nintemdo tries to do something different...

More like they gambled, much like the Wii. Only this time, it hasn't panned out as well.

Besides, they are wasting their "innovation." I have yet to hear of a game that truly uses the pad to its fullest, much like Kinect and Move.
