Forums - Gaming - Are the PS4 versions of multiplats really better??

The comments here are REALLY starting to get nasty, guys. Tone it down a notch will you?

There are facts, and there are opinions, and there are preferences.

Preference would be which console has the better controller...I personally like the DS4, others prefer the XB1 controller.

Opinions would be things like "I can't tell the difference" or "the game is more important than the resolution"

But in the end, the FACT of the matter is that the PS4 has a better GPU and faster RAM, and consequently, games will look and PLAY better on the PS4 than the Xbox One. AT WORST, the PS4 version will be at parity with the XB1, but we haven't seen a SINGLE multiplatform game that looks or plays better on the Xbox One.

Now, that being said, if you still prefer the XB1, or if your friends are playing the game on XB1, great...go have fun.

If you are enjoying the PS4, that's great too. Remember...none of these discussions here are going to make your platform of choice any more successful than it's competition.

And even if they cared they will see 1080p vs 900p and say yes it is better.

I always found the resolution thing to be funny.  Show me someone who can stand at an optimal viewing distance from a TV and tell me how many lines are on that screen with consistent accuracy, and I might actually take the resolutions arguments seriously.

That's like saying you need to be a botanist to enjoy looking at flowers...

Yes, better is better.  Only if better is what you were told and not what you experience.

I will go with a car analogy.  When discussing sports cars, many people may tell you that a Ferrari is "Better" than a Lamborghini.  Now, the people who say that can possibly come up with dozens of technical reasons to think so.  And, those reasons may be technically correct.  But, when you sit in the seat of both of them and drive around, you will not find those differences.  The reason is that unless your going fast enough in the right a=exact set of circumstances, the differences are imperceptible.

That was the real point of the OP.  That the actual differences while actually playing the more recent versions of the multiplats shows that the differences are not perceptible to the person playing the game.  Yes, digital foundry will tell you there is a difference, but they aren't playing the game.  they are just looking at it.

You are one of those poeple that will put their hand in fire to see for themselves if it burns even if their are "THIS WILL BURN YOU" signs plastered all over the place huh?

Yup, know they type.

Yes, and it is incredibly obvious. It isn't "A little" better, it is measurably and noticeably better.

Tom, you bring up a good point.  Because no one is arguing about whether it is measureably better on the PS4 than the XB1, it should be obvious.

BUT, I would rather you actually tell me what you did that made it so obvious to you.  You must own both consoles and you must have 2 of the same TV's set up next to each other and have bought or rented the same games.  Then, while you were in the middle of playing these games, jumped to the other console and took off from the same spot and found the difference "noticeably better".

I am being sarcastic of course.  I doubt that you or really anybody has done that.

My point has been that the differences while obvious in digital foundry comparisons of most of the launch titles, are a lot less obvious if you are actually playing a game.

I mean they are noticably obvious to me so I don't have to do those things to notice.  I looked at BF4, thought to myself "Oh this looks like crap, what happened?" , and then I saw the Xbox One.

Gotta love it when guys who last gen would go on and on about 360 having better multiplats, feel the need to say that the differences don't matter, NOW. Especially since the differences last gen truly were minimal. And we keep getting thread after thread about the same thing. Can you guys just get over it already?

The PS4 is more powerful, by quite a bit. There's a much larger gap this gen then there was last gen between the PS3 and 360. Nothing will change that. Sales show that this does matter to people. And the larger the sales gap gets, 3rd parties will be less inclined to have their games look as close as possible.

In fact, they'll feel more pressure to deliver better graphics on the PS4 once Sony shows gamers what that bad boy can really do.

The differences really are minimal. Unless you are looking at a side by side comparison trying to nitpick details, it is not going to ruin anyone's experience with the game (much like last generation). I buy multiplats based on which controller I prefer for the game type. Shooters and racers I prefer the Xbox controller. Third person and RPGs I prefer the PS controller.

Buy consoles for the exclusives. Multiplats are basically the same on both consoles.

Well without reading all the posts I missed this is my take:

No when Multi plats that are going for parity are the case. They will be the same regardless of console for the most part, however many will still have the definitive editions on the PS4 and that's because of exclusive content.

Games that are not going for parity, yes they will look better. Right now the difference is noticeable, but not huge. As this generation goes on, the gap will widen as the stronger of the two consoles (PS4) will have its power tapped. People can talk about the power of DX12 and the 10% that has been opened up because of the change of stance on Kinect however, that does not mean much as Sony will see improvements just as the XB1 and the fact that the hardware is just simply put more powerful.

Sony seems to be getting some big exclusive content this time around so for the most part many multi plats will be a better buy on the PS4.

way to contradict yourself.

my tv is 1080 but i can always tell the difference between content on the tv being at standard def, 720p, or 1080p.  it is obvious and a massive change.  but then again,. i sit 6 feet from a 46 inch tv so according to the charts 4k is justifyable to my viewing configuration...

Rofl.. Im sitting way to close when i play lol

Probably not. THX recommends sitting at 1.2 x diagonal size for optimum field of view experience (40 degrees fov). That's 4.6ft from 46" or 5.2ft from 52". 1080p isn't enough at that distance, and you can easily see the difference between native and upscaled 1080p.

I sit at about 1.5 x diagonal size from my projector screen. Kinda closest where 1080p still looks good, and the difference between native and upscaled is very visible. When 4K projectors become affordable I can finally move the couch forward (for movies anyway)
The SMPTE standard for 1080p suggest sitting at 1.63 x diagonal size for 30 degrees fov, still very noticeable. But if people want to play with 15-20 degrees field of view (3.8 - 2.8 x diagonal), sure you will have trouble spotting the difference.

Played Destiny on both XBO and PS4 and they looked exactly the same. That is the only game ive played on both consoles. And to be completely honest, even when something is different, its so minor that nobody would really notice. Its just something that feeds the console wars.
