Well there is the other point that a lot of Nintendo's games simply wouldn't work that great on mobile.

The top grossing mobile games are not ports of old button based titles. I played Megaman 2 on iPhone ... it was a terrible experience.

they dont have to be top grossing, just sell enough to make a profit which im sure they could do.

To be honest I don't think it'd be that big of a cash cow for them, unless they were willing to make games from scratch. Nintendo doesn't need an extra $10-$20 million a year, they need a sound business philosophy that secures a viable future for them.

If I were Nintendo I'd seriously take a look at expanding more into the movie business. If done correctly, there's no reason IMO that a "Nintendo Movie" with Nintendo characters (maybe some third party ones) couldn't do as well as a "LEGO Movie" just did. And I think Zelda could be a big live action series of films.

It's just like 20 years ago, Marvel movies were horrible, but today they rule the box office, just need the right producer/writer behind the movies.

They could then expand their toy/merchandising business from that. They need to get away from being just a video game company, and I think they are looking to do that.

Hmmm

Former something....

hmm, well then he should go cause mobile games can make Nintendo lots of money.

Because AAA gaming companies make a lot of money on mobile? Do you know what happened to Capcom's mobile devision!

Really Nintendo is not suited for mobile besides something like Tomodachi Life.

Nintendo series that could be easily ported to smartphones (and maybe be successfull):
~ Nintendogs
~ Animal Crossing
~ Pikmin
~ Brain Age
~ Fire Emblem
~ Another Code - R
~ Pushmo/Pullmo
~ Style Savvy
~ Electroplankton
~ WarioWare
~ Flipnote
~ Tomodachi
~ Rhythm Heaven
~ Picross
~ Advance Wars
...and probably some more

im saying people will see Mario and buy it for 5 dollars cause its mario and they already have a phone. They do the same for Sonic and others. Their is no "smart" or "dumb" in that decision.

It's not as simple as you imply

Charging $5 or even $1 for a game in the mobile makert isn't a wise decision especially when there are thousands upon thousands of other games that essentially advertise being free.

Why do you think so many devs opt for the f2p model?

Adapting their older games to the f2p isn't as easy as it may seem as well.

Then there is issue of discoverability and profitability.

Not to mention they are essentially diluting their brand and eating away into their own handheld business.

The mobile market is nothing but an opportunity to make a quick buck, for a company like Nintendo there is no opportunity for growth - they should focus on stengthening their core business and divesifying with other longterm ventures (like QOL)

Well every president of Nintendo before Iwata was from the Yamauchi family so wouldn't surprise me if some people might want a member of the family back in the top job.

Nintendo is already experimenting with f2p games anyway. There are two so far I'm aware of; those being Rusty's Real Deal Baseball and Steel Diver. They try to have a presence in the mobile markert as an additional revene source.
