Forums - Nintendo - Rumour: Infighting in Nintendo Management Leads to Scheming to Get Rid of Iwata

The problem is though Nintendo skews much more towards kids and casuals. If you give that crowd the option of having those games available to them for $1 a pop, a lot of them will just say "well I already have Mario on my iPhone, why do I need to pay $50 for a new Mario game?".

I just think it's a risk Nintendo is unwilling to take because if it didn't turn out the way you say it would, then Nintendo would've effectively devalued their 30 year old franchises to $1 a pop wonders.

yes i dont think they do at all. and thats part of the problem. If they really skewed toward kids and casuals they are doing a crappy job and they would have sold way more systems than they have now. No Ninty skews to Ninty fans. Wii U proves that. And Ninty fans are going to know the difference between some old classic mobile game and the brand new Pokemon. Even then kids arent stupid i think they understand that the games they are getting on mobile is not going to be the same on a Ninty system proper. I dont know why this is an issue. EVERY other company does not have this problem. Hell their is a few Assassin's Creed games on mobile, a COD, Infamous, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Etc. and that doesnt STOP the console games from selling. Hell you can get GTA on the phone didnt stop 5 from being the fastest selling game ever.

Isn't Donkey Kong for gamecube pretty much a good quality Flappy bird? I wouldn't mind Nintendo doing mobile games, if people who buy their consoles can also get them for free.

These are dark days for Nintendo, I think they just don't have an answer for how smartphone/tablet gaming has devalued gaming.

Even Miyamoto admits he is afraid that hand-me-down tablets are taking away the kids market from them. Casual market is pretty much gone from them.

And Sony/MS pretty much have an iron lock on the male 12-35 market.

That said I'd be in favour of Nintendo seeking a partnership with one of Sony or MS exclusively (for example Nintendo perhaps agrees to support one of their consoles with games if they agree to support their handheld with games and provide some monetary kickbacks) rather than ever going to smartphone route.

I think they will try and see how Quality of Life, amiibo, and the next handheld (fusion?) does before making a rash decision though.

If this thread has proved anything. No one has an answer. Its just people saying what Nintendo shouldnt do, but not what they should. Not unlike Nintendo.

It's not a great time for the industry in general, of all the various gaming platforms, the only one really doing well is Playstation 4, and even there it's a horrible failure in Japan so far and is not going to come close to touching the PS2.

Nintendo has just been especially hard hit though.

Japan aint messing with home consoles like that anymore ANYWAY. So i dont think thats in indication of anything. People still want consoles its up to the companies to figure out what KIND. Sony seems to be the only one to get it right so far.

Or that there's really only room in the market for 1 successful console anymore. The market for the home console is basically becoming males age 12-35 who want to play big-budget games like COD, Destiny, Watch Dogs, etc. and there's not room for much else. So only 1 console is really needed for that.

Then on the bottom end you have mobile gaming which is chewing up everything else. There's no "middle" part of the market anymore, things like Rayman, even Sony's own LittleBigPlanet, and anything that isn't part of the above "blockbuster game" formula struggles to sell.

The game industry by and large is really not a great business. The hardware vendors are either losing money or making peanuts and half the developers are one flop away from bankruptcy.

games like Rayman dont cost much to make anyway so they dont need to put up COD numbers. If companies just priced accordingly they would be fine. No one's paying 60 for a Rayman game. They need to get that through their head. But they might pay 30 or 40. Look at Minecraft for 360 people are still buying that.

can Mobile platforms just die already cause its just insane people keep suggesting Nintendo to make games for smart phones which would take away resources for making games on their own platforms

cause ports take alot of resources?

i can see Nintendo charging for their mobile games around the game prices that Square does so i don't expect to free if they put them up on the app store

If they're going to do this I think they'd be just better off marching into both MS and Sony's offices and saying "we'll port some of our games to one of your platforms, but we want a big gaurunteed yearly moneyhat + support from you on our mobile platform" and watch the two proceed to do backflips for them.

The problem with kids is even kids don't want a kids skewed console. They want what their older brother/sister is playing, but that's a whole other can of worms.

its  the same reason why i wish remaster's to not exist cause they cost money and need teams to make and i rather just have a new game even a small one instead of them porting or remaking an old one

Square is porting Console games to cell phones, I think Nintendo should instead do the kind of games that fit cell phones well, like Angry Birds, Candy Crush, or Flappy Bird, they definitely know how to do that, and leave the console games for their consoles.

This article is pointless.

The board will sooner just kick-out and/or dismiss these managers, or just completely ignore them. The board re-elected Iwata, the board makes the majority of the decisions and have been backing Iwata on his stance against mobile. Nintendo is a Japanese company, anyway, so the president holds less than absolute power, the board is the one who makes the decisions against or for changes in the company.

No one on the board would let Hiroshi Yamauchi be president or even manage anything, he's not good at much of anything unlike his father.

a straight port of an old Nes game can be done by like 5 people. come on it costs next to nothing.
