Forums - Nintendo - Could Wii U be doing better if...

The wiiU got a 6m headstart. Nintendo is just a bunch of talented but ignorant people, and that's the problem. They wasted a whole year on a gimmick no one wanted (or wants), and now almost all 3rd party support has left the console. Now nintendo's only option is what is happening, getting all the big names on the console and hope for gamecube user base numbers (20m).

If Mario Kart 8  would have been a launch title? Yes! Without Mario Kart 8 in 2013? Hell no........

Nintendo would have supported Wii for longer in that case, so the game situation would likely be pretty similar. I would say it would be doing worse...(maybe a little better each week, but worse overall sales)

They should of had pikmin and w101 at launch then have mario kart and donkey kong come out feb and may(monster hunter 3 ultimate should stay with march) if ubisoft didnt ditch it rayman could have been june(this would be the smart way leading to more console sales) oh yeah add marketing campaigns for all the games and i expect it could have beaten nintendo first wii u goal of 5.5 million by march(make the commercials good though hype everyone)

I thought it would at least turn out profitable

It will still probably end up gaining Nintendo some profit. When I say success I mean in the console sense, not business sense. It won't end up worth the time & money in the end. It destroyed the Wii brand...

Yeah I don't think Nintendo will be able to make another Wii console after this. I know they will make another console but it won't be called Wii, unless they want it to do even worse.

Thanks for all the great memories!

Agreed. They have talent, no doubt about that. But they are so ignorant and refuse to change to what the market wants, instead trying to make the market want what they want it to want. It worked with the Wii but that was a fluke. If they were to embrace change and then maybe they could have a really great console.

and what the market want is...?

Even if all those games were ready the system would have been destroyed by the competition. If anything releasing it a year earlier is one of the few smart things Nintendo did with the system.

They released a system before it was ready. It was slow, it used to crash a lot, it was really really slow, it was very unstable, and it took them over a year of patching to sort it all out.

Also, it had poor quality launch games compared to the games that released in 2013 and 2014

It still lacks many key features a console should have now... like easy/quck access to friend list, notifications, ability to invite/join friends, and party/voice chat

If they made them Orange they would've sold much better!

Have a look at COD/AC/GTA etc sales and marketing campaigns and the success other consoles have had with a huge focus on that type of game.

So they should just make whatever sells well...?
