Forums - Gaming - Remasters aren't bad, but having the one major summer first-party game be one is.

Transistor is a fun game, I play it on PC.

Now, I'm referring to Sony titles only here, since they are the biggest content provider so early in the generation.

Flagship games come out one or two a season, and this early in the generation Sony needs to provide, since there are few AAA third-party titles to look forward to right away. Wolfenstein is decent, but not quite great. Watch Dogs was decent, but not great as well. Overall, the summer has been rather mediocre, and I hope that this is the floor of the PS4 in terms of games, with the rest of the lifecycle being much better.

Sony hasnt been the best it could be when it comes to games, im telling you that. but they arent doing a horrid job. they are releasing games, but the first year is expected to be one of the weakest. just look at PS3 and PS2's first year, they arent that stellar either. and The Order was Delayed, which is something sony couldnt really control, but look at DriveClub and look at how it benifited from the delay, it was better to delay it than just releasing it for the sake of release.

Personally this summer is weak for me too, with me just started to play infamous last week, as i kept it for the summer. but again, it was expected to have a slow summer. it will get better, next year we already have The Order and Bloodborne confirmed for early 2015. we have Rime and Everybody's gone to the rapture, and Uncharted confirmed for 2015, we still dont know when. and we still have gamescom, TGS and VGX for more game reveals, its getting better. now we have a summer, that we both agree isnt the best, and they are releasing a remaster of one of the best admited games in history for it. a game that is honestly still a year old and still pretty relevant.

Yeah, overall it's certainly not the worst period in gaming, that's for sure. And they've got tons of games upcoming next year, third-party and first, so I'm sure that the drought won't last too much longer.

Last I checked, there aren't many notable games releasing from ANY of the big three this summer. If your concern is the amount of content, then your thread should focus on that, not remastered games.

I came here expecting this to be another the The last of Us thread. not disappointed.

I don't know, I think you forget (like a lot of people do) that this is still the first year of the console and for a first year console it has already released two exclusive titles this year already. Not including indies. I don't think the XB1 is getting anything exclsuive (except maybe indies and even that I am not sure) from Titanfall till when sunset overdrive/forza comes out later this year or which ever comes first. At least on the PS4 we are getting TLoU.

I would be fully with you if this was the second year of the PS4 though bit come on.... the console isn't even one year old yet.

Sony had years to make develop exclusive games. Nintendo had Pikmin 3 in their first summer and WWHD (which is essentially a complete remake of a game over a decade old) following soon after.

Also, last gen during the first summer the PS3 Warhawk ready for the PS3, which was actually great and popular for a while, not to mention being a completely original title.

I actually do not mind these dry spells. Helps me catch up on back log. Still have several games to beat and several more to buy. The games will come and 2015 already looks overwhelming.

I wouldn't care about the remasters if we actually had some other games to play, but when remasters are the only thing the library has, it's a bit ridiculous. There's pretty much nothing but Infamous for anyone that already owns a PS3.

It's like if the SNES came out and instead of any new games you got a whole bunch of NES games to fill the library.  No remake, just a port with deeper colors and higher quality sound, but the same overall graphics and music composition.  Then the few people in a single fanbase defending this practice of not being ready for the console release and deciding that a port of a year old game is the best game for people who have had a chance to play it already.  The fanbase is more ridiculous than Sony.  The same fanbase that bashed Nintendo for having over 10 exclusives within the first year saying the Wii U had no games, but defending the PS4 having only four.  I'm done though.  I'm sure everyone is just as tired of me repeating the same thing over and over as I am repeating it.  I'm sure even you guys see how biased you are about it you just don't want to admit it so the argument will never end.

Yeah, I feel where you're coming from. Kinda stinks... : Kinda why I don't buy consoles at launch, though that's still kinda on Sony, it's not really an excuse.

And other consoles also have droughts and stuff, though even the "total-flop" Wii U had more exclusives, so... -_-

Better then nothing.

I get where you are coming from, but I think your comparisons and/expectations are a bit harsh or bias. I think you aren't looking at this or making your observations from the point/perspective of the typical average gamer.

So first a usage case scenario, the average gamer either had a last gen console (PS3/360/wii) or may even be geting a current console as his first console. Both scenarios apply. Now if such a gamer buys only the PS4 and sold his PS3/360, kept it or or never had one of those to begin with, chances are regardless of where he falls in this usage case scenario; that  he will only be getting games for his PS4. And even if he has both a PS4/XB1, he would only be getting one copy of the games available for the console he wants to get it for. So he won't be buying watchdogs for both consoles.

This only wouln't apply and you can completely ignore everything I have typed thus far, if you ONLY bought the PS4/XB1 just to play exclusive games and then o all your multiplat gaming on your PC. Though this doesn't make you fall under the "average gamer" class anymore.

You need to understand that Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo as a business primarily thinks about the average gamer and work under the assumption that that gamer will have only one current gen platform. So to them (at least for sony and ms), when looking at a release year or quater, they aren't just looking at exclusives but rather the whole picture. Nintendo approaches stuff like this differently cause they don't have the kinda third party support the other two have so they have to at least manage an output that should be higher than the other two.

So I understand that you are talking about the available number of exclusives.... but I will put it this way, if you have only one console, everything that comes out in on that console is an "exclusive" for "you". If anything I feel what all this is really an indication of is that the time of having multiple consoles is fast coming to an end.

the problem is that its a ''remaster'' from a one year old game
