Like you said, it's a "sexy ass piece of technology," but without the software, it's useless. It's like saying having the best paints in the world will make you a great painter. The Vita made the EXACT same mistakes the PSP did, but when the PSP came out the PlayStation brand was so high it sold like crazy anyway. The Vita did not have this luxury. 8.5 million and barely growing isn't a lot, really. Plus, a lot of those sales are from Japan, so if Sony does want to continue with the Vita it only kinda makes sense in Japan. But in America and Europe the thing is dead. |
That's sony's fault - support from them have been abysmal outside of japan - if you don't release any games consumers are not able to buy games. What makes things worst is the software attachment rate for vita is impressive:

It's sad really - Sony is giving vita owners a disgusting finger, they do deserve better

Yeah, but the Virtual Boy and Vita are two very different things. The Virtual Boy was an experiemental 3rd pillar. The technology was terrible and it ruined peoples eyes. Nintendo dropped it and gave the middle finger to 700k people. The Vita is the official succesor to the PSP, and it is a sexy ass piece of technology. Sony is giving the middle finger to 8.5 million people. |
Its actually just giving a middle finger to about 2 million people since this is only talking about America. In Japan, Vita is strongly supported and isnt going anywhere, not sure about Europe tho.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
Hang on.
“We’re seeing healthy consumer demand for PS Vita globally, particularly in markets like Japan,” the representative said.
Well, I just bought and received my new opened-seal-box VITA for $180 USD that came with an 8 gb memory stick
So I'm good.
Edit: Oh and it's the OLED version.

let me just quote this again.
Well IIRC Wal-Mart stopped stocking them a long time ago, din't they? Though Gamestop and Amazon are really worrying, if this is true.
I really hope this isn't true, and I can't see it being true either. If they really are trying to push it as a PS4 accessory (which imo is a bad idea, but that's not the point) I can't imagine them not stocking it; if anything I feel like sony would just make it Digital only or something.
Either way though, I don't think this is true.

They still shouldn't drop it. They have to show their potential customers that they'll support their consoles even when they aren't printing money. If they drop the Vita, there will never be another successful portable Playstation and it will take a toll on their home console sales too. There will be 8.5 million people that will think twice before they buy a PS4 or 5.

It's been a miserable failure for Sony, and if anything, has damaged the brand. There's not many new games coming out (any?), zero killer apps, and even Sony is dropping support for it. Why continue it at all? 8.5 million isn't a lot for hardware...the Vita is taking up shelf space which could be used for PS3 and PS4 merchandise. |
Are you on an agenda here? Cause you sure sound so.
There are a lot of games coming, in fact Vita's 2014 library can be considered among the strongest libraries of all platforms for this year. Seriously. We just got info about Freedom Wars selling 190k at retail in Japan FW - a very nice score, I hope it can get to 1 mil.
Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/
My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.
