Forums - Gaming Discussion - Kazuo Hirai should be fired.

What exactly would firing him accomplish? Further diminish investor faith in Sony? Have any suggestions on who should replace him? Kutaragi perhaps? A pointless endeavor. How would it improve Sony's sitatution?

Sony was a mess when he inherited it, and I don't think he could really be blamed for not turning it around in the short time he had.

He did completely undo Kutaragi's mess in SCE, so he has something of a proven track record of turning a company around. I think it's worth giving him another couple of years at least.

What? Kaz Hirai did nothing special as head of SCE. The price of the PS3 was reduced over time (which anyone could have done) and third parties never wanted to leave PlayStation behind in order to develop for the market leader, nor was the 360's installed base big enough to justify exclusive games (meaning that Hirai didn't even have any convincing to do). He took over a division whose biggest problems solved themselves over time.

Aside from that, it's important to look at products that were born from Hirai's leadership at SCE. PlayStation Move was a bust. The PSP Go was a flop. But most importantly, the PS Vita is paving the way for Sony's exit in the handheld market. As for the PS4 (which Hirai was also responsible for), it's not much of a challenge to come out on top when the competition self-destructs in such a spectacular fashion.

Hirai has yet to show any ability of lateral thinking. All he has been doing is sustain existing things and cut things that were beyond saving, but there are no new ideas. At least not any that have had a positive effect.

That's utter bullshit. If you recall, Sony utterely self-destructed with the release of the PS3, even though it was following the same design philosophy as the PS1 and PS2. Sony could have easily self-destruct with PS4 as well, you're just being disingenous.

Stop dancing around the point, shut the entire company down and sell off the profitable parts send em all home with golden parachutes and just say fuck it to the consumers and shareholders. That's what you want right?

I mean you can stop pretending like you care about the wellbeing of a billion dollar industry, the millions of people that work there or the country supported by its infrastructure and admit that the company who manufacturers the boxes of plastic you prefer sells a couple million more is more important than that?

I mean what are you waiting for?

I only want to see Sony grow and be a healthy company. I don't care about that petty console war you speak about.

than , you know there is over 148,000 mainly japanese workers Sony Employ and Kaz is trying to save most of those jobs he can, you and it seem's many just do not freaking get it, and thats fine and dandy and all, but the vote to keep him and the board is and has been to keep the steady point of cut and trim until they can keep the company in the black and atleast keep mainly again "japanse" workers employed!

the fact that he is not sitting on his d@mn @ss and not doing anything, as a matter of fact he is doing and has got quite a bit done in order to fix the freaking money pit bleeding of the TV section of the company, not only that but he and the board has no intention of selling off or spinning off the playstation section of the company because its not a d@mn public IPO and Sony has no intention of it ever going public for good reason, the fact this is a game forum also means unlike playstation the cuts are mainly going to the tv section so why in hell does this keep coming up in this forum?

Again Japan is not Europe, its not the United States the market dynamics by the west does not work that way in japan.

First it was d@n Loebe will get Sony to spin off playstation, but..but he has 7% of Sony, and it did not happen

But..but the investors are going to vote out Kaz, yet when the vote came in the board of directors are still there.

Investors are getting fed up with Leadership over at Sony..oh you mean "West Centric Investor's are" yeah what the hell else is new!

LMAO

is that why Sony is just ignoring the playstation Move with VR? no that would be Nintendo with the WiiMote and Microsoft with Kinect! just because Sony does not heavy spend to promote a product does not mean they do not care about it or that is somehow a freaking flop!

" PS Vita is paving the way for Sony's exit in the handheld market."

Really ? because Sony's got the right idea to invest more into smartphones and Tablet gaming and making a Micro Game console which by the Way Apple and Amazon and Google are heavy to invest into the living room and it seems that at least Sony's got the idea to at least challenge them on that front with a Micro Game console.

The fact is Sony under Kaz has at least better direction and d@mn sure more focus to the Eco system that they are trying to build.

"At least not any that have had a positive effect."

Yuppers sure he is not ..lmao

Hirai kept in mind that it's important to launch at $399, because price wasn't much of a consideration when it came to the PS3. Not exactly a genius move.

Turning the positions around, it means that the 360 beating the PS3 wasn't much of a challenge either. There's no reason to give Microsoft special credit. More specifically, Microsoft handled their advantage poorly. On the other hand, Nintendo pulled off success against all odds, because their console wasn't backed by the industry; meaning that Sony's self-destruction would have not automatically translated into bigger market share for them, unlike in Microsoft's case.

@joeorc: Bringing up smartphones, tablets and micro consoles isn't a counter-argument.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

True, its actually the opposite  There is no room for Sony in two of those markets.

I'm not really here!

Everything those companies achieved is only due to sheer luck. The CEOs deserve no credit whatsoever. Indeed, everyone here and their mother know better than them CEOs.

Sony mobile, sony entertainment inc playstation, movies and music, and sony medical and sony uber expensive stuff(4k projectors at alot of cinemas here in UK, professional cameras) are doing well.

Against what odds? Last gen was a fluke, the perfect storm of conditions that have yet to be recreated. The industry didn't matter cause Nintendo was being backed by the mainstream.

Kaz has been the CEO for to short a time to scapegoat the problems upon him. If fired, whoever replaces him will have a much worse scenario to deal with and will get fired as well for not stopping a problem that increases when firing CEOs. Granted I'm overestimating his contribution but if you want an easy way to kill a dying company this would be an easy way to do it.

Oh, so that's what this is about. You thought that I said anything about firing Hirai. No, I just disagreed with Kantor's assertion that Hirai has a proven track record for turning things around. Note that I didn't talk about what Hirai did as CEO of Sony as a whole, but what he did during his reign of SCE.
