Games cost way to much these days.

They also earn much more.

Sony does need more studios, but less than MS or Nintendo, because PS4 is the main console for multiplatform anyway.

Not every game sells millions of units.

MS and Sony are about equal in 1st party. I give the edge to MS becuase of Halo and Gears, but others prefer ND games. So superior 1st party is subjective.

Not every game needs to do it, but a lot actually do, average game pays off multiple times.

Last gen they weren't, this one is close, but like i said, ps4 is multiplatform console, sony doesn't need to be superior in 1st party, MS does, and this is pretty objective(as much as it can be at all).

Hell, they have a total of 16 studios. (completly owned, not talking 2nd party or funded for specific games)

I consider this a lot, only EA  and Ubisoft that have many more (EA has 31 and Ubisoft has 35, including mobile ones).

MS has more studios than Sony, they just mostly suck at developing new IP's though. This is why MS bought Gears. No faith in themselves.

Is this some kind of sick and twisted joke? They don't even compare to Sony in new IP production. Nintendo plays it safe but MS pays everyone else to do the work for them.

Without giving too much thought into this, I think that this is the answer, or at least part of it.

Today games cost a whole lot more if you aim to deliver an AAA-experience. This is why we most likely will see less of those games and a whole lot more of smartphone and indie games. Games that can still generate a lot of money and are very simple to develop.

And to be a little harsh, if you sort out all the crap games from the exclusive lists, you will end up with very few actually good games. For each generation. And yes it seems like it is declining each generation, but the top AAA-games seems to be getting better and better. This last part is of course just my opinion.

MS will trounce them on both fronts and this is exactly what they are afraid of. They don't like all of their weaknesses exposed. MS can't do a PR stunt to get around this like last gen. I'll enjoy their games but internally they are not creative enough to outproduce Sony. Sure they'll pay everyone under the sun to make a game for them, but how many of those games will be hits rather than misses? You can never be sure where quality is coming from with MS unless its Forza or Halo. They don't have many trusted studios. As Sony said at E3 the reason they succeed with games so much is that they take risk on games that people dont expect to become big as well as the big games. Microsoft only pays attention to the latter, so their list of games look uncultured and small just like their line of sight.

You forgot moto gp 2014 and the amazing spiderman 2... Both are exclusively on ps4

Game development time has been increased due to HD graphics transition and its really difficult to make many AAA games like PS2 time. We have many games from Indies and 3rd parties to fill the gap meantime, that's why sony going with some Exclusive DLC with some 3rd party games.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Terrible analysis.

The whole market has changed. When PS2 launched there were 3rd parties making exclusive games simply because there was nothing else to release them on. The parity between PS4 and X1 is unprecedented in the history of (3d) consoles - it's too easy to make multiplats to ignore. And as some have mentioned, games cost HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars. They are MUCH MUCH more expensive to make and hence there is a much larger risk involved when publishing a game - doing so on multiple platforms decreases this risk.

As I said, terrible analysis.

youu are wrong about that one as motogp is also on xbox 360 and amazing spiderman2 is available on xbox one

(continued)

Not to mention that there are (exclusive) indie and f2p games that are MILES better than some of those PS2 exclusives you list.

As I said...
