Forums - Sony - Sony needs more studios BADLY!

Do you think Sony needs more studios?

Yes, they definitely need more studios 131 28.73%

No, they have plenty of studios 225 49.34%

Neither because their stu... 98 21.49%

Total:454

IMO they don't need more, many of their big studios have more than one development team that can work on multiple projects(Santa Monica,Naughty Dog,Japan Studio,Guerrilla Games) plus Sony has a great working relationship with many studios that will give them Exclusives(From Software,Qauntic Dream,Ready at Dawn etc..). MS is the one that need more first party studios.

Things r fine mate. 2016 and on will see big things coming out of Sony studios, and a lovely list of exclusives.

Having more studios don't mean much if it'll do nothing but make losses in the end ... What Sony and as well as the others need are more quality developers that will actually deliver to the audience.

Call me crazy but having 1 great game is better than having 10 average ones and in that respect I commend Microsoft more than Sony for their last generation efforts in this regard. Not to say that Sony doesn't have good games but Microsoft was better in that aspect from last generation because they focused more on quality of their games than Sony did.

Sony doesn't need more Crytek esque studios like Guerrilla Games or Zipper Interactive but rather they need something on the lines of Naughty Dog like Rocksteady Studios, Bungie, Rockstar, and 343 industries. I feel they don't have enough of those quality studios and the same thing goes for Microsoft and Nintendo.

They put out more IP's than Microsoft and Nintendo and destroyed Microsoft in first party exclusive development with less studios. I think your fear is unwarranted given their track record. Sony is always slow during the first two years.

If sony needs more studios "badly",vwhat is MS situation?

What Sony needs more than anything else is a solid profit.
Imho, The plan is to take profit from :
- excellent 3rd party sales thanks to good PR, better hardware, packaging, cheap console, indy relationship, easiness of development, better market shares
- not over investing, including on 1st party studio. Better show and get 100 millions $ more profit right now than make studios and launch 2~3 years developments that will not make money for a while. They had only 17 millions $ profit in for the PS division 2014, one more studio would have put them in the red.
- release games on the PS3 the year the PS4 launches because the market is bigger, and the dev cost less. That's GT and TLOU.

The 1st point could lead to more 3rd party exclusives, at last from indies. The 2nd point could change with profit coming and competition increasing pressure. The 3rd point is closed, Polyphony and Naughty Dogs are back in business. Current dev will release. Everything points to a lot better 2015 year.

MLB14 and LBP3 aren't PS4 exclusive, and Bloodborne is 2015, so it's actually only 4 unless you feel like adding a digital exclusive like Resogun.

But yeah, that's a really sobering comparison. Did Sony just think the thing was going to bomb and didn't bother to get much in production for it or something?

Things will be fine for the PS4. Sony has tons of studios. You dont want them showing you games that are 2-4 years away do you? (Square Enix, EA)

Games cost way to much these days.

They also earn much more.

Sony does need more studios, but less than MS or Nintendo, because PS4 is the main console for multiplatform anyway.

Not every game sells millions of units.

MS and Sony are about equal in 1st party. I give the edge to MS becuase of Halo and Gears, but others prefer ND games. So superior 1st party is subjective.

They have more Studios than MS and Nintendo.

Hell, they have a total of 16 studios. (completly owned, not talking 2nd party or funded for specific games)

I consider this a lot, only EA  and Ubisoft that have many more (EA has 31 and Ubisoft has 35, including mobile ones).
