I read the OP and I know what the content ID-system is .

If your video is flagged through the ID-system, ALL the money goes to the original owner of the game/ source material (and Google ).

A fair compromise would be an even split between developer/Youtube-person/Google .

I think watching Let's Plays is kind of lame. I dislike even the video reviews that spoil too much of the game, they should show only the first 20% at most IMO.

Many do but that's not how it works as this is digital content. A fruit is a fruit, the cook has paid for that fruit, it's a physical thing and from then on, they own that fruit to do with as they please but they can only do it once. If they make a fruit salad, they can't then make another fruit salad from the same piece of fruit again.

What video makers on Youtube are doing is buying a digital licence (on a disc) to play the game for themselves. The physical disc they own, the packaging they own, there is only one of them and if they were to destroy it, that's the disc gone. The digital licence is different because the product isn't physical and can be replicated over and over by copying. This is where it becomes questionable. I own the entire DVD boxset of Frasier, just because I own that doesn't mean I can put it all up on youtube, put advertising on it and then claim the money I earn as my own. There are digital rights I've broken to do this, the gamers doing this on youtube are doing no different. Music is the same. But the video game developers turn away from removing the content/sueing people because they feel it advertises their product.

Maybe the "Let's Players" should give some of their money to the developer who made the game and therefore their career. Are they?

The fact that he has "backtracked" on what he said by removing his outburst indicates to me he has nothing to stand on and he realised that he made himself looked rather like a dick.

Platformers like Fez or story-heavy games that only really have one possible gameplay experience arguably do suffer from these channels on Youtube.

The exposure still does more good for indie games than it harms them, regardless.
