Gives me an idea...I could do a "let's watch" like MST3K of this PewDewPie person who apparently makes 4 million a year. If I get even a tiny fraction of his audience could clear 100 grand this year.

So the developers are getting money from the 'content creators' directly? Is that PeeWee bloke giving some of his money to the developers of the games he puts on his youtube videos which he make money from? I kind of think that based on this discussion, he's not.

Im pretty sure if you just make good games gamers will buy them.

If I do a review on a Procter-Silex stand mixer, showing off the box, everything inside and do a demo, do I owe them money too? I've spoiled how the stand mixer works, and now that people have seen it in action, why would they go out and buy it. People with this mindset are the same ones working on ways to have each individual watching a rented movie pay a fee.

People that strictly watch videogames for entertainment are a very small group.

Basically the argument Nintendo uses. Aside from minor PR problems, there really isn't an issue here.

Its hard to disagree when folks like pewdie pie are making millions off other peoples work. If I was a developer I'd be pissed too.

In till someone goes to court over Let's plays, they will stay in the grey area. There is no full court answer to it. So both sides aren't really right. It would most likely fall under Fair Use anyway. Just because Pew has 10 million views doesn't mean all 10 million didn't buy the game. That's just like if saying everyone waits to buy the DVD for a movie instead of paying for the ticket. I do it. But those 1 billion dollars given to Avengers prove that isn't the case.

I don't know, this seems similar to the rules for movies.  Like you can have your friends over for a movie nght and watch a DVD you bought, but if you get a bunch of people together and make them pay to see it and make a profit it's no longer legal unless you have those rights to the movie.  Video Games should probably work similarly.  And don't kid yourself about whether or not his viewers pay, being shown advertisements is a different form of paying for content, but it's paying for it none the less.  

Exactly ! They are making money of of something other people own . And the original owner of the software doesn´t get a single penny .

...hyperbole aside, Phil is right. The publisher/ developer that made the software should get something in return.

Radiostations have to pay royalties too.
