[our long text]

BOLD.

"It absolutely is. This isn't the child timeline. There is nothing to follow but plot in that timeline. This one on the other hand has a very obvious look to it's main characters that Nintendo has been careful not to break."

Since the story comes after the gameplay/design of the game (Twilight Princess's story came after them saying they wanted a Zelda game with Link as a wolf), I'm still going to say Link's looks are unimportant for the most part, unless they were making a concious effort to place it somewhere at the beginning, which I highly doubt they would do, seeing as being an open world Zelda would be a much higher priority than timeline placement.

"No they aren't desparate for new content. The downfall timeline hasn't had a completely original and not at all derivitave game since the Gameboy Color. On top of that, as I already said, it's the only place in the timeline with no 3D Zelda. There's no question that the downfall timeline deserves a new game the most."

This we are looking at from different, but equally valid perspectives. I dont think a lack of 3D Zelda matters in my eyes because I look at all the Zeldas equally so it's just number of games, the end. But I understand your point.

"Every timeline tries to revive Ganon or features Ganon revived. (Or features Ganon created)"

But literally every single game in the downfall timeline, bar Adventure of Link, is related to a plot involving Ganon. An amazing feat when there's 7(!) games in that timeline.

"Spirit Tracks would arguably be the most restrictive. The new Hyrule already has established races specific to that timeline and no other, the Force Gems, the Spirits of Good, the fact that the world has trains and is littered with train tracks: I could go on and on. They couldn't just wipe all of that progress away. It may be nothing familiar, but it would be the world that is the most specific."

That, I understand completely, and cant argue against much, except that races in the Zelda series come and go VERY often (I miss you so freaking much Subrosians, Rito and Minish.) It's actually a thing I really hate about Zelda games. But they'd definitely have to explain the Tracks and a couple other things (not that it would be very difficult, they could just get buried underground or something.) Although, an easier way around this would be to put the game far enough in the future that they can worry about explaining stuff for another game.

Beamos I'm pretty sure. Cronologically, SS. Game release wise, ALttP.

lasers, sideburns my guess is before or after ALttP but doesnt make much sense.. lol

you are probably right Zelda II it is .

Yeah... Aonuma just confirmed what I suspected. There's no crazy tech afoot. It's just a beamos-like enemy.

Ben: The trailer shown off for Zelda Wii U during the Nintendo digital event was very impressive and very intriguing, especially because there seemed to be a theme of technology with the monster with the mechanical arms and the lasers, and then the high-tech arrow at the end. What can you tell us about the theme or prevalence of technology in the upcoming Zelda?

Aonuma: It’s not as though this environment is more high tech than past Zeldas. If you remember, we’ve had statues in the past that had beams that shoot out of their eyes. (beamos) The hookshot is something that is actually really really high tech. We probably couldn’t even make one now if we wanted to. So I wouldn’t say this new Zelda is going to take place in the more distant-future, or even the near-future for that matter. But one thing we have to do as developers, you might be thinking ‘but then you are not rethinking the conventions of Zelda’, but I am rethinking the conventions, and as a part of that, we have to continue to have these items evolve and change their presentation and make sure that it’s still new experience.

of course theres no tech

I was thinking that maybe just maybe the sword isnt Links primary weapon anymore..this is also the first time Link isnt wielding his sword in a reveal trailer. and that glowing thing seems to be wrapped to an ordinary arrow maybe some gamepad function make custome weapons etc..would be cool to go through a dungeon without the sword

Tsubasa Ozora

I don't think that's the case. I'm pretty sure he was just showing off a more in depth version of upgradable weapons. The tech from the arrow is the same on the enemy, so it probably drops an item when you kill it, and you can use that item to make more specific types of weapons.

That's just a theory, though.

I'm sorry.

I like OPs points, and think it's a solid theory.

But I've a hunch this is post SS, maybe 100 hundred years or so after; I think this will essentially about the formation of Hyrule.

I can't point to why I think this, it's just a hunch really, although it looks like the castle is being constructed which would make it early, and the lack of civilisation makes me think it could be during the colonisation of the world below.

But we'll see :D

Actually, Adventure of Link involves Ganon a lot, remember the game over screen? If you die, Ganon's minions spill Link's blood over the ashes of Ganon and revives him. The whole game is about preventing Ganon's resurrection.

Yep.

For gameplay purposes I'd love for it to be in the defeated timeline. Zelda II probably has the largest world if we were to scale them, and it would make perfect sense for an open-world game to feature that Hyrule. Plus I love the idea of traveling across the sea (Windwaker-style) to get to another huge landmass.

Long sideburns. Link from the "Hero is successful" timeline.
