Forums - Nintendo - People are underestimating the sales potential of Bayonetta 2 (plus predictions)

1 million max and that's only because WiiU gamers don't have much else to choose from. So it's not going to be thanks to the game itself as it's as niche as a game can be.

That is a big exaggeration.  You don't know niche if you think Bayonetta is very niche.  It's only moderately so.  Niche as nich can be are VN games like Ace Attorney, Zero Escape, and Dangan Ronpa.  Those games are almost always just Japan releases, and even there they don't usually sell even a tenth of what Bayonetta sold.

your first point is missing something: there's also the nintendo fanbase. so it's nintendo fans interested + a percentage of ps360 owners who played the first game + ps360 gamers who didn't play the first but ar enow interested in the sequel (including the prequel helps a lot).

Nintendo should show that ass on TV, that will drive sales for sho

This the greatest image ever. If Nintendo's advertisers went there the game would definitely get known lol.

Nintendo fanbase is not a reliable fanbase for 3rd party titles.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Nintendo fanbase that haven't played Bayonetta before account for only 100k of people or less.

edit: of sales.

I've never played the original, but the E3 showing got me very interested. I'll be pre-ordering as soon as I can :).

I also don't think it's unreasonable to expect this game to sell 500k
-700k lifetime.

I think like 800k.

Funny thing is that a year ago, or just months ago 800k would of made you look crazy

No, the Wonderful 101 was as niche as a game can be, due to confusion about what precisely it wanted to be.

Bayonetta's appeal is clear: sex and violence, delivered in a way that's over-the-top enough to not be off-putting to the self-conscious social-justice crowd, but also not so esoteric as to turn off those who just want to watch a sexy lady kill things. It makes no bones about being an action game in the style of Devil May Cry or God of War, and it does a very good job of it too.

The question is, does that clear appeal reach the "mainstream" Nintendo gamer? Probably not, but it'll reach enough of the core Nintendo gamer that the game won't do horribly.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

500k lifetime and I'm being optimistic. W101 barely hit 200k.

please! Totally different style of game. Wow101 Was never going to be big. Never! Looks almost like a PS4 eshop game. It was an exclusive. Nothing more.

bayonetta isnt ever going to be big either

If it moves 1m units, it will have done quite well. That's asking for nearly a 1:6 attach rate (about a 1:7 rate by the time it releases), which for a game like Bayonetta, would be highly unusual.

Personally, I'm not counting on this one staying a Wii U exclusive. If it tanks, they'll want to recoup losses by selling it on other platforms sooner than later. As for expecting this game to sell any significant number of consoles... I for one, have no intention of buying a Wii U for Bayonetta, and I don't think I'm a part of some small minority of Bayonetta buyers/players who won't buy another console just for the sequel. It just isn't a hardware seller.

But more importantly, we don't even know how good the game will be.

I guess that's why much smaller franchises, like lego city, monster hunter tri and zombi U are all bellow 500k, oh wait.
