Forums - Nintendo - Candy Crush made more money than Nintendo last quarter!

Nintendo going mobile would be the best thing for them. They could have these kind of profits.

Making skinner boxes is completely antithetical to Nintendo's corporate culture. More shameless companies have burned themselves to the ground trying to be the next Candy Crush.

Big success in mobile takes alchemy, luck, and often a larger up-front investment than most people think.

Looks at King's stock.

IPO was $22, now a few months later at $16 and the lock-up period is not yet ended which will push the stock lower.

My point? Investors see the pattern of these companies coming in, posting insane profits and then flailing around trying to have repeat sensation and crash and burn. I think Nintendo will be here in ten years, King on the other hand not so sure.

Oh just like Facebook? When they opened in the NASDAQ, stocks dropped badly and everyone was talking doom. A year later, their share almost doubled their opening. Investing is a long-term something, perhaps IPO stocks will raise if they remain getting huge profits and publish new games.

OT: Sick that this little game can beat Nintendo & Sony's gaming division :(

Once you entered you won't be the same anymore. A blog about life.

Candy Crush has earned more money to beat other companies too, you know? Why is this topic only attacking Nintendo? It just makes Nintendo's sales seem extra bad.

Casual market is lame. Even though it hurts Nintendo now to not have them, if (and that's a big if) they can get over it and modernize, they will be a better company for it. We were seeing some ugly trends develop as Nintendo got too drunk off their Wii/Touch Generations success (ie: E3 with Ravi Drums and Wii Music).

Chasing fads instead of making substantive gaming experiences was never going to end well for Nintendo, that's just not who they are as a company.

The difference between Facebook and King are very significant.  Facebook has now established itself as the social networking site and as far as I can tell no competitor is on the horizon. People use Facebook for various reasons and it can market to thousands of different groups within its user base.  Facebook's only challenge was users going from PC to mobile, and that never seemed like a huge issue to me.  I should note I did do quite well on FB stock in 2013 for full disclosure.

King is not a diverse company, when a single IP is making 2/3 of your income that is shakey ground. Creative mediums demand rapid adaptation and new ideas.  Candy Crush will wane and the odds are what ever King comes up with next will struggle to match such insane numbers.  If they do manage another massive hit of course the stock will climb well into the 20s and possible 30s, but the question is are you willing to gamble on such a model? I know I am not.

Too bad it's a substanceless, crappy flash game, and the people who make it are absolute cocksuckers. Who the fuck tries to copyright a simple word like "Candy" anyway? Not just for games, but to apply to OTHER shit, like headphones, meaning they're obviously hoping to go after SKULL Candy, the best earbud headphones out there.

What a bunch of cocks.

Nintendo even dabbled in the micro-transaction business to dubious results, as Bravely Default offered a monetary way to acquire special points in the game.

Eh?

You can buy one of those potions that gives you "extra" freeze the screen thingys or you can just wait and not suck at the game.

I'm more referring to the Nintendo-made-Bravely-Default part. I assumed Squeenix got that loot, notwithstanding Nintendo publishing the game.
