I would be willing to ignore all that and even the desert multiplayer
What kills it for me is that it is not going to have DLCs.
I enjoyed AC 4 on Wii U, but not having the DLC is a big letdown =/

Pffff cause we all know that most PC gamers buy their games physical, right? Look at this:
Are you seriously going to try and tell me that GTA IV (which was late on PC as well btw) sold badly on PC? Also how do you know, that resources weren't taken away from the PC version? Are we making stuff up again, Zero? |
ubisoft said they took resources from the wii u version, the pc versions of past AC is baseless speculation.
Now moving back to the main point. these pc AC were used as an example against what I said, except that they don't mean a thing. is there a way to prove those games would sell the same if they were released at the same time? common sense says it's the opposite, just like WD on wii u. it may sell well, but much less than with a fair release. and those pc examples don't have a connection to the subject.

Wow, trying to spin this aren't we? For AC they didn't even start with the PC version until the 360/PS3 versions were finished. That is the exact same thing, they prioritized there as well.
Well then let me assume something here, when you were first told that the AC games were all delayed on PC you asked for how long. From this I deduct that you would probably agree that a delay of a couple weeks would be not as bad as a delay of a couple months, I would even say that a delay of a couple weeks can be called negligible. Now while we do not have all the data, since we lack digital sales, we still have physical sales (though we need to mention that for AC & AC II we do not have American physical sales) which we can use to at the very least say something on the matter of the delays' impact on sales.
So let's compare the physical sales, the first 3 AC games all released 4-5 months late on the PC, but they sold on average about 7.2% at retail of what their Console equivalents sold, which is again without American numbers for AC & AC II, total physical PC sales for those 3 games are 1.84 million.
The last 3 on the other hand all released 2-3 weeks after the other versions already on PC. How did this change physical sales of the PC version? Well, on average the PC sold 7% at retail of what the other versions did, totalling at 1.84 million sales as well.
As you can see, it made no difference at all, at retail.

" For AC they didn't even start with the PC version until the 360/PS3 versions were finished" are you saying ubi made a full port in a few months? if so, the wii u delay is even more inexcusable.
each game is different. the last 3 may have goten similar proportions but the question is: would the others have sold more if released at the same time/soon after the console versions? yes is the most probable answer. besides, PC is a platform with a fixed big installed base and ubi might get away with crap like this. wii u, on the other hand, is a home console early in it's life and this kind of delay completely screws it's version.

Thank you. People are acting like they funded Ubisoft themselves to make this game. It won't sell well, we get it. Doesn't mean that it won't turn out well on Wii U in the end, and if it does, Ubi will have my money.
It works be really cool if they take advantage of that controller on the WiiU

Right there with you. My options are PS3 or Wii U and I have way too much backlog to worry about a delay, I will buy my copy on Wii U and sell a few among my fellow gamers of my country.

I'm not saying this, the article is.
1. AC like every game is developed on PCs, making the PC version is way easier when you already have the other versions, after all you have way less limitations and they've been making PC versions for years now.
2. They are making an AC every year, the development of that game is streamlined to bits, they have their engine in place, they have their gameplay in place, they probably have most of their voice talent in place, how does them still having to delay AC on PC every year make "the Wii U delay even more inexcusable"?
Watch Dogs is in development since 2009 (PC as the lead platform, so no delay there), has a completely new engine and new gameplay, do you seriously believe this game can be ported as fast as an average AC, especially to Wii U, where they're trying to find a worthwile way to implement that controller. No, of course not and that's why they made the decision to prioritize the other console versions, because they will shift way more units on them and they'd lose way more sales overall if they decided to push those back to September or something, cause that's when most big games start releasing. (more competition, you know)
And you know what, they won't lose anything because of this, cause the amount of people that only own a Wii U, wanted to get the game, but are now so enraged over this delay that they're not going to get it, is ridiculously small. Most people will either get another version, which means money for Ubisoft anyway, or they'll get it when it comes out on Wii U. The only person that I see that is constantly making a huge deal of this is you and you never wanted to get this game, I'm pretty sure, you're just enraged because "Wii U owners are getting treated worse than everybody else", well let me tell you something: Wii U owners are making them the least money, that's why they're being treated the worst. It's that fucking simple.
Also that last paragraph is nothing but a huge excuse. When you're suddenly eliminating other entries in a series as eligible ways to make comparisons, then you're basically creating something that can never be proven wrong or right and then becomes a totally baseless assumption, cause you have nothing to compare it to. Or can you give me an example of a game that at the same time released simultaneously on all platforms and was delayed several months on one? You can't? Of course you can't, because this doesn't make sense. And what is this about the install base of the PC version and the Wii U being early in its life? The notion that the PC fanbase is fixed, not that it's true, would only support what I said, after all it was the same amount of people that bought the games on PC, no matter if they're delayed several months or only a couple weeks, that would all the more suggest that there is no correlation between the delay of a single version and its sales.
The Wii U being early in its life also has nothing to do with this, being earlier in its life means that it has less games, so the games that are released get more attention, so actually a delayed game would if at all suffer more when it's late in the cycle of a console, cause it has way more competition to be swept under the rug by. Sure later in the cycle more people own the system, but that's all the more reason why the version would possibly hurt way more if it released late at the end of the consoles lifecycle, right now there are only 6 million Wii U owners and only a small percentage of those are even interested in the game at all, so the delay is going to hurt way less then it would if for example there were 20 million Wii U owners.
Finally before you respond, read my post and think of a good way to counter it, if you just want to do your usual thing of highlighting one sentence of this whole block of text and responding to it with a one liner, then don't bother responding at all.

Wow so many years of "disgusting, inexcusable and financially totally stupid decisions" of Ubisoft and they're still around. And AC is still their biggest franchise and looking at physical sales the game even seems to be performing quite well on PC. How is all that possible? |
You do know that in most cases that the PC version of games normally sell poorly in comparisson to consoles for the majority of multiplatform games?
I wish people would stop giving game companies such a hard time, it's not easy making a game nor is it easy making it on multiple platforms. If you have one version that is going to sell say 6 million on consoles and only 200k on PC (and ignoring the fact of general piracy), why are people surprised when PC versions get delayed while they try to ensure the console version gets released on time.
There's nothing disgusting or inexcusable about it, or financially stupid decsions, making games is costly and risky, and what you are saying is they should perhaps make the release date longer and spend more time on say the PC version which would affect their bottom line. To me that is financially stupid.
Everyday companies have to make decisions that will decide if the company makes money or not, pretty sure they are not doing it to spite the PC market... but considering many PC owners own a console and that is their first port of call for buying the game, then it makes sense to focus on the bigger market. This is the case of Wii-u also, the platform has sold badly, 3rd party software is doing terrible on it, Nintendo is dropping the ball in terms of supporting it, it's sensible that the Wii-u version gets delayed. Now will it affect the number of sales of the Wii-u version, yes probably but they have probably already worked out how many they expect to sell on this version, the cost of development, and how many own multiple consoles/pc and will buy elsewhere. If it costs more to develop than the expected return, they will drop it, if not they will continue to develop it. Simple... nothing evil about it... Nintendo have been poor this gen (they weren't great last gen either) in supporting 3rd parties... in fact they need a real shake up if they are going to compete because they are lagging behind badly.
