I sense pessimism.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up. If the Wii U shoots to first, I wouldn't be that shocked, but I'd be freaking psyched about it. I try to keep my hopes in check on this site. It makes every victory that much sweeter.

1: So you're making this into a semantics argument rather than pointing out why I'm mistaken. Which titles will provide and maintain momentum to keep the Wii U afloat until Smash? Why will Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors, X and other, similar games make more of a difference than Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Lego City Undercover and other games did last year? You must have some form of reasoning behind your beliefs and I would like you to prove me wrong.

2: Yes, I am. Again, how are you providing any reasoning as to why I might be wrong? Seeing as how you still believe the Wii U will manage over 50 million sales lifetime, I can only imagine you're picturing a sales explosion, it would need insane increases to pull that off at this point, which also ties into number 1; what software and other measures will cause this surge besides MK and Smash? Yes, Zelda U will do well but hardly be a deciding catalyst for 50 million sales.

3: E3 has lost a lot of its zest, GDC and other events are equally big, if not bigger, now than E3 is. And once more; announcements do not cause increased sales, the actual launch and release of the announced items does. Sometimes, it can even have the adverse effect and we often see new hardware announcements, be it revisions or completely new hardware, actually lead to a slump in sales. Stating that something will arrive on your console in the future will not make consumers run out and buy them. After all; doesn't the public know that MK and Smash are releasing? They even know the date for MK, why aren't the Wii U sales increasing due to these announcements? Surely, the last MK 8 blowout must have caused a decent bump in sales?

Why do you always answer questions with questions of your own and never apply any actual arguments? It's a pretty worthless debate technique and adds nothing to discussions. You have to reason around your beliefs and points, especially when you always make such fantastic claims; the bigger the claim, the heavier the burden of reasoning. Of course; I'm expecting another a neither here-nor there answer with question marks, deflecting and dodging so this is likely just a big waste of time.

Did it sell the N64 and GC? No!

Don't hold your breath, but it actually *might* have sold a Wii U or two in the UK. Tesco had a time-limited deal for the MK8 bundle at £200 (now expired) and it is now selling at £239. At Amazon, the bundle is £249 but appearing absolutely nowhere in the top 100 best sellers list, despite the game itself being in the top 3 (at the time of this post).

However, when filtering the best sellers list to show pre-orders only, I found the bundle at number 51 (at the time of this post).

So at least the bundle is being pre-ordered in the UK... and let's face it, if the promotion Nintendo is promising actually manages to shift some Wii U's here, where most people don't even realise the console exists, then it can only be good news for sales everywhere else.

(edit to add) Just in the past couple of hours the Mario Kart 8 bundle has crept up 8 places to number 43 in Amazon UK's preorder list, and the basic white Wii Wheel (without controller) has just rocketed up 200 places to (don't laugh) 335. It might not be much, but it's happening...

Well i don't know about n64 but GC sales reach its peak in 2003. Thats when Mario Kart is released.

Yes it will.
A lot of Wii U owners are probably going to buy Mario Kart 8.
And a lot of People who don't own a Wii U might buy that console to play that game.

On the eve of MK8 release, at 23:19 BST, Amazon UK best sellers list has PS4 at #18 and the MarioKart 8 hardware bundle at #20. Granted, it's updated hourly and we'll probably never see anything like this again, but that's pretty spectacular, considering it's the UK. Amazing what a little advertising can do...
