It will be a turning point financially, that's for sure. Mario Kart games have wide appeal, and Nintendo is making sure the world knows there's a new one on the horizon... and with the new YouTube integration, they'll not be getting lots of free advertising via social media, courtesy of Nintendo fans...but they'll also be making money off those YouTube vids uploaded by gamers everywhere.

would be better ditch out the wiimote+ and wii wheel from the bundle and sell it cheaper.
instead of giving the game, give a official price cut also.
without wiimote+ and wheel, it could be 300$, without the extra game, would be 250$.

wii U + MK8 for 250$, it would be a really good deal.
parents look at the price, not if it comes with a downloadable game.

Of course it'll sell consoles, why would anyone think it won't? What it won't do is give Wii U sales any long-term boost, and probably not a meaningful short-term boost either.

It will move consoles.

Estimates should be at 120k and 180k at minimum for NPD data in May and June respectively.

Shipments in Q1 should stand between 800k-1million comparatively to last year's 160k.

It's going to be successful relative to the userbase; hopefully it will not be a one-off event.

For those interested Q4 results soon:

Mario Kart 8 was already going to sell some consoles. This deal and the bundles will only help it sell a bit more.

@Clyde: (greatly off topic) what exactly does the COMG on your sig stands for? There is a long thread with that title but I've never been bothered to look.

COMG is a Japan preorder chart. 1 point is usually around 1,000 preorders, but sometimes it isn't.

Thanks, but what do the letters COMG mean?

It'll be the biggest sales we've seen outside of holiday and launch, no doubt about it. How big, I'm not sure. It might even get as big as holiday sales if they market it right, the question is whether it can really increase momentum permanently or not. If sales go down to abysmal levels again afterwards, it won't do much, but if this gets people on board with Wii U and sales pick up on the long term as people start to realize the value of getting the cheapest console with the most games, we could see Wii U start to look at least respectable in sales. I don't expect Nintendomination, but I'm hopeful that it'll be the first step to putting the Wii U a bit ahead of the Gamecube.
