Forums - Nintendo - Theory: Miyamoto's New IP Is a FPS and Will Be Shown at E3 2014!

It will probably be rated E and feature anthropomorphic cats throwing yarn. I love Nintendo, but they have no clue how to make a good FPS. They need to go to Retro and tell them to make a new IP that's a muliplayer centric FPS.

Nintendo did file a trademark for S.T.E.A.M: Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace. It sounds like an FPS you described. As long as it has online multiplayer and the features i mentioned but with Aliens then I am on board.

Steel Diver Sub Wars is Nintendo's fabled online multiplayer FPS. There's no Nintendo-developed COD knock-off in the works.

Who said anything of a CoD knock off? What is S.T.E.A.M then? Did Miyamoto say that was his new IP? Try again.

Try what again? People say they want an online multiplayer FPS from Nintendo. Nintendo makes Steel Diver Sub Wars. People say no no no that doesn't count because it doesn't have X Y and Z which have been staples of the online multiplayer FPS ever since Halo or COD 4 or whatever. Now come on Nintendo, make an original FPS with that Miyamoto spin that turns the familiar into the unexpected, something we didn't know we wanted.

Steel Diver Sub Wars is what we got.

Knowing Nintendo it will be different from other FPS's. It won't be a military game.

It'll have Aliens, Ghosts, or odd creatures that Miyamoto thought up.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo does reveal their version of a FPS soon though.

Yeah. It would probably be a cutesy, kid friendly FPS type of deal.

I would be disappointed if Nintendo did that. If I was looking for FPS games, I'd buy a PS4, XBone, or invest in a gaming PC. From a business perspective, it's a poor decision. Nintendo has more of an opportunity with Wii Fans, kids, and the Nintendo faithful who still haven't upgraded.

I think a Metroid FPS shooter spin off would be great. Based on the soldiers from Other M.

The trademark of S.T.E.A.M. is for a Japan market game. Most likely for 3DS if anything at all. It is a really poor name especially what it stands for.

Anyway, your idea of a Nintendo FPS game is to copy elements of bunch of other shooter games? Nintendo just doesn't roll like that. If they didn't think it up, then they wont do it even if they recognize that it is a good game design / gameplay whatever.

The reason is very simple, you can already play those other games. Nintendo is much more interested in new gaming experiences or keeping their existing franchises alive and relevant.

I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that Miyamoto working on a FPS is the worst idea since Wii Music.

I think the closest thing he's ever come to a decent FPS was Yoshi's Safari on SNES.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I don't see why people are so quick to shoot this down. Some of the best games of the last generation were first person shooters (Bioshock and Metroid Prime 3). Just because Miyamoto might be working on an FPS doesn't mean it's going to be some 3 hour corridor shooter a la Call of Duty. At least give the man a chance before you condemn the idea.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
