Forums - Gaming - Microsoft saved Titanfall from being canned, sony lacked cooperation/openness

Don't see what the issue is here...seems like sony weren't ready with ps4 when respawn approached them. It's not like they didn't want to assist.

The later deals with EA/MS doesn't seem to even involve respawn or sony for that matter.

I think the time over which all this happened is important here.

Don't see why people are arguing, none of the parties involved come off looking bad.

Well this news is hilarious on a couple levels.

#1 all those stupid threads and posts about how MS is greedy and whatever for "buying the game" and how "omg they should have made more games with that money" and blah blah. To read that the game wouldn't have been made without it, that's pretty amazing. That makes 2 games from third party companies this gen that wouldn't have happened without MS's financial backing. I hope this goes a long way to showing people that you can spend money to have people make games and it doesn't make you evil or greedy or a terrible company.

#2 A PS Vita version LOL. Oh shit, that was great for a laugh.

The parts of the article about the Activision lawsuit were good to read as well.

edit

I just read Somini's ranting about how Playstation gamers didn't want Titanfall anyway. I guess make that the #3 hilarious thing to come from this news. Yeah dude, whatever. I mean, it's not like Call of Duty sells well on Playstation platforms or anything. And by that of course I mean 3 of the top 4 all time selling PS3 games are Call of Duty games. But hey maybe that completely changed with PS4? Oh wait the best selling PS4 game is Ghosts, and 3 of the top 4 selling PS4 games are FPS. Clearly Playstation gamers don't care about shooters and don't buy them. To be honest idk why Respawn would even go to Sony their platforms sell so little FPS.

No offense but that logic reeks of salty tears.

Also this is more evidence that a hero "insider" of gaf was a bullshitter.  Famous mortimier lied his arse off again on this subject.

Famousmortimer is a bulshitter? Yes he got some things wrong and the things he said about Col. Rodger was despicable but that doesn't take away from all the things he's gotten right. He leaked Sony's entire lineup at their PS4 reveal, he was the only insider saying they would launch in November and not October, he leaked the 399 price, he leaked that COD would be 720p on XBO, he even leaked that Insomniac was developing an XBO exclusive. Dislike the man all you want but don't just label him as a bullshitter because he said some things you don't agree with him.

I am actually quite happy that Sony didn't waste any money on this.

Yep, Sony only puts money into great games.

Like those killer apps in my sig.

Since I don't see the sigs, I don't know what is going on in your sig, unfortunately.

However, if you have games such as The Last of US, Uncharted, God of War, Infamous, Journey, Flower, Tearaway, Littlebigplanet, Puppeteer, Gravity Rush etc. etc. then yeah I agree with you. Not all the time, but 90% of the time they are right.

Lists don't really do anything and lack context in this case. Yes we know Sony has nice 1st party studios, which is IMO carried by Naughty Dog. His sig by the way was about the meh meta of Killzone and the unfortunate performance of Knack.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Every publisher has their fair share of underperformers. Seen the metacritic page for Kinect Sports Rivals?

The one that has no context here is his reply. My original comment was only about the topic. Sony may have put money only into games in the 0-10 metacritic range and my comment would still stand.

The answer was given here many times:

Sony didn´t have the resources to fund and suport the game the same way Microsoft had.

If now with all the PS4 success Sony has laidoff duzens of developers on their first party studios do you think Sony would have enouth to spare two years ago on a new third party game?

No, that's just not realistic.  Sony could easily have spent a few million dollars on Titanfall.  That's nothing to a company the size of Sony.  This is obviously not a full funding issue.

This is deeper than that.  There are a lot of unanswered questions.  What was EA trying to accomplish?  Did they start a bidding war?  What were they telling Sony, that if they didn't match Microsoft then it would be an XO exclusive for a limited time?  Because that's what Respawn seemed to think.  If that's the case then I can't really blame Sony for backing away.

Before we say Sony made a mistake or did not make a mistake, I think we'd have to know the full story behind what EA was doing.  If they came to Sony first and Sony didn't want any part of Titanfall, that's one thing, but if they were demanding Sony pay up just to keep the game multi-platform, that's a bad direction for publishers to take.

Yes....many core Xbox fans really looked forward to using that in forums as bragging rights.

And contextually speaking, its meta is in line with Kinect Sports 2 and casuals wouldn't really care as long as the core package is sound, which it largely is.

No reason to get defensive. I don't need Sony's resume.

I'm just flatout saying Sony funded a lot of projects much less noteworthy than Titanfall. But you already knew that based on your response.

This is done and overwith Titanfall while it helped MS sell Xbones has not been a game changer. Who cares what the reason is why it ended up on only MS consoles. It all but a formality that Titanfall 2 will be multiplat. Obviously Sony would like to have this game on the PS4, but in all honesty people are still lining up to buy the PS4 without it.

IMO it worked out perfect for gamers, MS gets this exclusive to help bolster its launch and keep them happy and continuing to support the Xbone while Sony keeps on selling and we have two healthy platforms to game on. Without Titanfall the Xbone launch since the initial month would have been just better than a disaster especially with the Way Kinect Sports 2 came out.
