Forums - Sony - The Last of Us Confirmed for the PS4

In this day and age, with the Internet, ignorance is a choice! And they're still choosing Ignorance! - Dr. Filthy Frank

Of course it is. It's nothing but greed on Sony's part. If Sony were really interested in giving people who own a ps4 but never owned a ps3 a chance at playing The Last of Us, they would have made the ps4 backwards compatible. Why is it that Nintendo gets no credit for being the only one to retain backwards compatibility this gen? That should be a huge plus, as they're truly looking out for the consumer there. Meanwhile, Sony and Microsoft nixed backwards compatibility with the sole intention of turning last gen games that can still be considered new into additional $60 cash grabs. And the worst part of all of it is Sony gets praised for this by the blinded fanboy masses! Seriously?!?  Really pisses me off. The public is guaranteeing that backwards compatability forever dies by supporting this kind of thing.

1.)  Backwards compatibility is not something that most consoles have.  Could you argue that Nintendo was greedy with every system up until the GCN using your same logic?

2.)  Backwards compatibility is best done with the actual hardware.  This is how previous systems did it.  This is how the PS3 did it for the earlier versions.  They might be working on a emulator right now for the PS4.  But it might not be possible.

3.)  A year old game that was praised, getting rereleased for PS4 with improvements is not worthy of praise?  A lot of people wanted this to happen anyway.  What difference does this make really? Can you no longer play the game on the PS3?  Or is it a nice bonus for a game to be remade for newer hardware.  Why can't I play Nintendo games on PlayStation consoles?  Greed?

You're talking about the GCN? That was back when the technology was relatively new and it wasn't standard. It would have been a major hassle for the GCN to play N64 games since they were two entirely different formats. Nowadays it's no problem to include something like backwards compatibility since games have been disc based for a long time, and it should be standard. X1/PS4 could easily have it if Sony/Microsoft weren't greedy. But the public supporting this type of thing ensures that it will never be standard again, believe that. Yes it's nice for OLD games to be updated to newer hardware. The Last of Us is a freaking 9 MONTH old game that is barely going to look any different on PS4. And what on earth are you bringing Nintendo not playing Playstation games into this for? That's a laughably stupid comparison.

awesome day one buy

Nintendo doesn't get any credit for it cause the only people that act as if this is "a huge plus" are a very niche group on the internet, most people don't care about playing their older games and if they do then they just keep the older systems. Now if you mean that people that never owned a Wii can cheaply get those Wii games and play them on the Wii U, then this whole "Nintendo is looking out for the customer" construct quickly collapses upon itself, because even five year old games like Mario Kart Wii still retail for pretty ridiculous and "greedy" prices.  This whole notion that Nintendo is less "greedy" than the other 2 is complete horseshit, what about the Super Mario Allstars Limited Edition for Wii that sold a SNES port of a couple NES games for $30? What about the Wind Waker remake they sold for $50? Why doesn't the Wii U just play GC games as well, if it did this remake wouldn't be necessary according to your logic. So why did Nintendo get praised for that by "the blind fanboy masses".

People have been asking for a PS4 version of the game since its release, Sony aren't more greedy than any of the other companies for acting on this demand and at the very least they're including the DLC in those $60 instead of just selling their 6 month effort without any additional content for basically full price (hint: Wind Waker HD)

IGN has a sneak preview/trailer up

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

@coregamer this is my actual account and dane008 is my alt one. @gribblegrunger Fair enough. Well i always believe that you tend to be more opened minded as you get to experience both consoles for its merits and flaws. Anyways on topic here,, this game should sell alot since fans demanded a ps4 release. I just hope fro a smarter Ai this time .

When you say AI, are you refering to your allies? If that IS the case, I don't think it can be changed. They had a choice: frustrate the player by making it possible for your allies to give you away, get your allies to stay back and not help until called, or make the AI more forgiving. As ND have said, the option to tell your allies to stay back ruined the emersion and flo, and giving your position away would have been frustrating, so they opted for the compromise. When actually IN combat, they have incredible AI, as do the enemies. I've played this game 7 times now and whilst the initial encounters play out similarly, they evolve quickly when you attempt a different approach.

What they could do though is add more options for the AI so that the variety of possible outcomes is increased. For instance, in the early levels, which are essentially tutorial levels, when you first take a bottle to distract the enemies, they always do exactly the same thing. One guy goes upstrairs, one guy walks into the factory and the other guy takes up a position with his back to the door. It's clearly set up for you to test out your stealth, but what if there were three possible postions those guys could take, and three possible AI paths?

The PS5 Exists.

@Gribblegrunger --- By AI i was referring to the enemies you have to kill in the game. I have played the game ,, and there are flaws with it. They are not stupid by any means. They are just average IMO. I have seen better AI with halo and fear. In other words,, they are too predictable. However their AI is better than most games out there. They don't flank you enough,, they don't outsmart you enough. That as a suggestion would be nice to have . I was thinking of having one group using its skills to flush you out while you are hiding . Then while you get out of your hiding ,, the other group comes and flanks you and kills you . To make that work ,, it snice to hear that AI knows where you are hiding and discusses how to get and they work together as a team. If they can get that kind of scenario in terms of AI intelligence,, then it would be super sweet. The more posssible paths teh better. I want the AI to challenge my brain and make think how should i approach it ,, instead of kwowing how it will turn ou t,, resulting in exploitation .

But isn't your statement true for both the XB1 and the PS4 the XB1 has what 5 or 6? I mean it is only in what it's 6th month? So 5 or 6 compared to 3 is not really that big of a difference this early in the life cycle. It has Dirveclub and MLB: The Show which should be releasing soon if I am not mistaken and that will make 5. The Order 1886 this fall that will make 6. And games they have not yet announced. So relax just give it some time.

MS is not in much better shape with the XB1(seeing as you can play TF and PvZ on PC or last gen consoles as well) at all. But it also just released so no big deal there either. It will get exclusives along the way as well. And NIN with the Wii U has been out for over a year so it better have more than both combined lol. So your point was kind of just out there which is why you got that response I guess. Lastly those PS4 indie/downloadable titles are pretty awesome so why just count them out? I guess it just seemed strange that you singled out the PS4 that's all.

MLB The Show is also on PS3.  I'm also singling out the PS4 because their lack of games, Sony not doing anything for the Vita, and then Nintendo as a comparison.

The Wii U isn't selling, but the first six months, Nintendo had a few retail exclusives of their own as well as funding several developers to make exclusives for them.  This is while both funding developers at the start and took them awhile, but developing exclusive after exclusive for the 3DS.

In comparison to Nintendo Sony isn't doing sh** and that's their track record for every console until mid gen.  People make the statement that they're doing more for the PS4 than they did for  the PS3 which other than promoting indies is bs.  Other than build a superior console to the competition at great price point, they're not doing any more than they did last gen.  The PS4 right now has less first party exclusives than the PS3 did at the same time.

I have low expectations of Microsoft as I'm not interested in the Xbox One anyways, but they're doing more for their fanbase than Sony is for theirs.

I guess I agree and disagree at the same time. WHile the PS4 does not have many "retail" exclusive games besides the 3 Knack, KZ and Infamous(which is still very good for a 5 month old home cosole). They have plenty of great downloadable games as well that are better than MOST retail game out on any of the consoles right now(PS4, Wii U and XB1) so I don't get why they just get tossed to the side like they are nothing.

I also disagree about Sony never doing anything until mid gen. For example with the PS3 it had 13 exclusives in its first year and added 21 more in its second year(GT Prologue, Uncharted, Rachet and Clank, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Resistance FOM, Motorstorm, Warhawk etc just to name a few). That's 34 EXCLUSIVE games in 2 freaking years. They definitely had games and supported the console  but that seems to go over looked. And heck the Vita was getting some great games they just were not selling so they cut back on the Vita and focused other places. Again I say atleast wait to see what they have for E3 before jumping the gun on a 5 month old colsole. I am sure it will be supported as it is being supported right now. Though as a gaming fan I truly understand where you are coming from and your concerns.
