Forums - Sony - Sony Forecasts $1.1 Billion Loss year ending 31 march - Will it be less after huge PS success?

How much loss?

1,1 Billion 122 45.69%

1 Billion 46 17.23%

0,9 Billion 27 10.11%

0,8 Billion 23 8.61%

0,7 BIllion 49 18.35%

Total:267

Sony told us that we could expect an 1,1 billion dollar loss. It's a few months later and the PS4 is beating all Sony's expectations. Do you think it's possible that the loss will be less than  a billion? Or will it even be bigger?

The loss has nothing to do with Playstation, it's because of the massive restructuring going on within the company.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Well they have made more money from PS4 than they were expecting at this time, but it's not really going to make a very noticeable dent when we are talking in the billions. And the way Sony are going at the moment, it wouldn't surprise me if they lost more money than they were expecting elsewhere.

Well they already had the end of 2013 sales information and January by the time they forecast this. It isnt like the PS4 had early Wii like sales in February and March. Software sales (where the current PS4 profit is at) for Jan-Mar will be a good deal less then holiday sales in Nov and Dec so not like some huge spike in profit coming.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

It won't make enough of a difference.

Let's say they are 2 million units over their original PS4 shipment projections.  Let's also give them a $30 profit (hardware and software) per unit.   That's only $60 million.

Granted my figures are for example only and should not be taken as exact figures but it does demonstrate how little the impact will be compared to the projected losses from Sony as a whole.

Don't forget PS+ and the massive orders Sony is getting for new shipments.

Aren't they selling the PS4 at a loss? I know software sales likely cover that but I doubt a console that is selling at a loss will make a huge dent...

Shit happens. We just gotta keep living.

2mi extra PS+ = 100mi = 10% of the loss

Again, it might help, but it won´t make a significant difference.

they might make less money with the PS4 then they expected if they had to invest/pay some upfront bills to start/rent additional production lines
