Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft Store slashes the price of Xbox One to $449.99 USD

It wasn't a good decision to try to sell each console for a profit...that just doesn't work when you are the most expensive console on the market.

Even still, they should wait a little while longer and then announce a price drop, not just quietly let it happen

Wrong they sold 3 million plus units at $500 and banked that $100 premium over the PS4.  That makes it a whole hell of a lot easier to drop the price.  I said this all along the X1 at launch was a premium price, because it would basically still sell out in 2013 at that price.  So business says thats what you do.  Every single piece of electronic equipment you buy now sells at a premium at launch. Then prices change. Why not a console.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

^this

plus there is no such things as desperation in business decision unless your company as a whole is threaten... But keep going it's amusing...

Dropping price : "oh its not desperation its just one retailer! Its not like an official drop or anything

Manufacturer drops the price on their own website, what now?

Promotion? MS more generous then Sony? I know, a crazy thought indeed.

Well it likely slowed their launch momentum and sacrificed some of their total userbase which could cost them in the long run. Additionally they run the risk of angering early adopters when they lower the price so soon.

Short term, sure, its a good business decision. Long term, questionable and we will see where XBO is in a few years.

The very bottom line is that MS' decisions surrounding the XBO were very anti-consumer which has hurt their image and their momentum. Who knows where they would be if they released the console at a loss instead of a profit. I would expect that there would be a larger number on the homepage of VGC...

Omg, so its actually official? Is this the quickest price cut in the history of console gaming I wonder since the wiiU had a price cut around October? (The super failed consoles don't count)

SNES, N64, GCN, and 3DS all had $50-or-more price drops within 6 months of launch.

Virtual boy also had a 11% price drop (not quite $50) within two months of launch. Depending on whether you're considering this to be a $50 price drop since $450 is $50 less than $500, or a $110 price drop since they're also throwing in a $60 game for free, you could say it's similar considering 10% of $500 is $50.

Makes you wonder in regards to the February NPD results.

Did it really sell 258k or was it an adjustment from the lower January numbers?

If it did in fact sell 258k I don't see why they would be dropping the price. Unless they just want more marketshare?

Yeah I think February included a significant amount of January's sales. And they are dropping the price during the month Titanfall released so there must be a big problem.

Microsoft as a whole is threatened by the XB1 not selling as much as PS4...Right...

Edit: Are being sarcastic? If you are this some emmy award winning writing right there.

Yeah man, Microsoft is only dropping the price out of the goodness of their heart.

February is in most cases a adjustment month... the January sales for Xbone was not that low like 145k... so they adjusted some in February... if I can guess I will say:

Jan: 190k
Feb: 210k

Something like that... yet loosing to PS4.

No, XB1 had an absolutely horrific Jan. Targets were sending XB1s back to MS 3rd week of Jan. MS converted those XB1 into titanfall bundles.
