Forums - Gaming - What game mechanics do you absolutely hate?

Simple question really, no need to explain :)

Mine:

Rubberbanding - Recently played ModNation Racers on PS Vita, and it is the worst example of this I have ever played.  First place, boost all the way through a shortcut (which the AI racers never use) and come out of the shortcut in third place.  It's not a good game in any sense, but that's just ridiculous.

Stealth - unless it's in a stealth game, I hate it every time

Platforming - same as above.  I enjoy platformers, but if your game isn't designed around it, I really wish you wouldn't put in in

What are your hated game mechanics Chartz?

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

random encounters

Gyro controls, like on 3DS and 6 axis.

Saves/Check points in the worst spot on purpose. Just to make the game seem harder. Most games put them before a cut scene or some hugely difficult area. Put it after the hard part. Since the hard area is gonna just be played over and over again. Rather than the area that gets you killed cause you're low on health. And never force Cut-scenes, ever. This is just a complete asshole move a designer can do. Also not being able to rebattle bosses or key areas. Why not? It adds replayablity. But most don't allow you.

Ai obiously cheating in Fighting games. They can hit combos faster than a human. This shit pisses me off to no end. Play fair. Or that diffcuilty is a waste of time. Or the crap where the Ai all of a sudden goes from dumb to instant perfect shot. When the level requires a increase in diffcuilty. Don't just skip from normal to ultra difficult. Any fighting move that requires a zigzag of the joystick. It doesn't read 90% of the time.

Ai team members not allowed to revive you in games where you can revive friends, but the Ai refuses to do that. BS cheap way to make a game harder.

Changing key features between sequals. Crysis 1 let you save anywhere. Crysis 2-3 stopped this. BS move.

Oh, and games that have reducleslsy drawn out gameover screens. Or force you to reload the entire game from title screen. RE 0-4 is the perfect example. Reload from a checkpoint.

If it is too cinematic I don't like it. Have nothing against a lot of Story sequences but all these quicktime moments aren't really "putting me deeper in the game" or whatever they try with that.

90% of the motion controls
Random encounters for sure (Another reason why I loved bravely default)
Ai Snipers with 100% accuracy from 5 miles away (Like in Crysis)
Places where you have to die but you don't know that

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

1. Turn based combat.

2. Stealth mechanics with stupid AI.

3. Motion control.

4. Touch pad.

5. Button mashing.

Quick time events where you need to tap one button insanely fast ( see Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 and dragon ball Z ultimate tenkaichi). Had to pause the game and bust out the rock band drums to beat the quick time events in these.

Time limits

And especially, 'shaking' the analog stick left and right furiously to break free...don´t do that shit, developers. It´s the one thing I really hated about MGS Rising, well, other than the camera. It´s like they want you to break your controller.
