Forums - Nintendo - I want Nintendo to make a game to replace Metroid: Other M.

What the title says. I know it may sound petty, but M.O.M. (God, even the acronym is atrocious) is a bastardation of the Metroid franchise, and it's honestly depressing that it has to be considered canon. What's worse is that in its canonization, it directly decanonizes the critically praised Prime series. Sakamoto literally said that he "didn't consider" Prime at all when writing Other M (aka its not canon) and that he personally didn't care for the series.

...The fuck!? Not only should the guy never be allowed to touch the Metroid franchise again, but a new game should be made to replace Metroid M. Other (didn't nothice that one, did you? Embarassing Sakamoto. Truely shameful) in it's place. I don't care if it's a 2D game or a 3D one. Just create an entirely different plot that ends in Adam sacrificing himself to save Samus in a way that isn't retarded an melodramatic.

Just please... Please let us forget this abomination... Then maybe Nintendo won't be too ashamed to celebrate Metroid's 30th anniversary...

And I still can't get over the fact that Smash 4 is using OM's new suit, but Brawl didn't incorperate anthing Prime in it's rendition of Samus.

Or you could get the Other M team to make a new franchise that's like Other M and has a decent story.

Not exactly a new point of view, this. Pretty sure Nintendo got the message, cause the game sold badly.

However I'd like to voice a minority opinion: There are people who don't enjoy depressing first person shooters, and for those Other M was the most fun they've had to date with a Metroid game.

But I do understand some of the criticism. The sappy story bits were too much, and gameplay could have been more deep, had they not limited controls to the sideways Wiimote.

I've given up on this game twice now, though the second time was more because I couldn't make time to play it than because I wasn't enjoying it...
I swear I'll make time for this game someday...

Have a nice day...

"He didn't consider" is not the same as "non-canon." The story of the Metroid Prime games has little impact on Metroid as a whole, aside from providing more background lore about the Chozo and the Space Pirates (and even then, the contradictions split if you consider the Zebesians to be a separate species from the Pirates seen in the Prime games). Similarly, Other M's story doesn't matter to the franchise except informing players of Fusion, where the "Federation is Evil!" thing kind of comes out of left field. Also Adam first shows up dead in a computer. Other M "fixes" that (or at least tries to)

So the game doesn't need replacing. All the franchise badly needs is its next "core" entry to get the ball rolling again.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I loved the game, a lot of people did, you should get over it. I'm sure the next metroid game will be amazing. There is good chances it come from Retro.

I know I'm probably going to come off as a dick for asking this, but why? How could you love that game? I'm not trying to be antagonistic here. I genuinely can't understand how someone could enjoy an experience like that one. Especally as a Metroid game.

And "a lot" of people hated the game. Very few of the already few people that played the game enjoyed it.

And honestly, I'd only want Retro to make another Metroid game if it wasn't another first person Prime game. I loved those games, but I'm done with them. Make something new.

In the game's defense*, the gameplay was pretty damn fun.  It could have been great as a new IP.  For anyone that doesn't care that much about the Metroid franchise, I can see having some fun with it while ignoring all the stuff that the fans worry about.

On the other hand, if you are a Metroid fan then yes, the game was pretty awful.

*I'm not even sure why I am defending it.  It doesn't deserve to be defended.

Oh boy. I wished the story was the only thing wrong with Other M. The soundtrack was awful, the controls were awkward, the game was insultingly linear ( specially for a Metroid game) and waiting for permission to activate power-ups is a dumb concept period.

I want Nintendo to actually remember Metroid exists. They haven't a released a game in the series since 2010, Nintendo didn't even do anything for the 25th anniversary. I know the franchise isn't a big seller but I think it deserves better than this.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!
