It will be used as a Kinect-style gimmick and soon be forgotten about. The problem with AR is that other than providing more precise camera control (something that people would switch to PC gaming for if they cared about), it does fairly little to improve gaming. I can see some cool experiments being done, but 10 years after VR headsets are introduced en masse, I still see the primary method of camera control being the analog stick.

First-Person-Adventures like realMyst, Tex Murphy, Dear Esther, Going Home, Murdered: Soul Suspect. It would be controlled with the PS Move controllers (full flexibility for both arms, but precise controls at your fingertips) and work like this:
Amnesia, Asylum and Forbidden Siren for the Brave. Portal 1 & 2. All Quantic Dreams games (Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls).
VR has like three modes in my opinion.
1: 1 to 1 mapping of real life and the virtual world. This could be considered perfect VR, but as such it's really limited. Virtual tours and similar games where you physically walk around fall into this category.
2: Mimicking 1 to 1 mapping. This would be your skyrims and such. The VR experience replaces body motion with controller input. Press X to jump instead of physically jumping. Hold forward on an analogue stick instead of physically walking forward.
3: The flying chair. This is essentially the "other" category. The game is played identical to 2D games. In a third person game it gives the sensation of flying around the world as a cameraman. Racers and vehicle games work best with this because the "flying chair" can match up with the car or cockpit. Motion can be a problem though. Visually it may be identical to driving a real car, but you don't have the force feedback of acceleration.
Groups 1 and 2 show the most promise imo. Almost all first person games can fit into 2, but the slower paced ones are usually a better experience. Skyrim good, Mirror's Edge bad. Games and genres for group one don't exist yet, and personally those are the ones that show the most promise. It's not translating current games to VR, build building experiences that were impossible before. At the moment these games/demos are just using presence as a killer app, but I really hope they expand to offer deep and fun gameplay.
Screw shooters. We need more parkour. Assassin's Creed, Infamous, Mirror's Edge.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
Anything that could be a movie. Horror, adventures, stuff like LA Noire, mostly things that are not very action-ish but atmospheric and thus creating pressure that makes the player rush and make mistakes.
Time for a vitality sensor ;)
VR will most likely deliver what the Kinect failed to. Hardcore sex games.

When famicom was announced, did people tought there was even one genre that would fit consoles better than arcade ?
It will take time, but genres specially thinked and optimized for VR will appear.

It can work for most tps games. The main reason for third person is better awereness of your surroundings. With VR you have that already, much bigger field of view and easy to check around you. No more having to look around someones butt for the entire game.
