Reading what other people have to say about this game, I sometimes feel like I'm in a mirror universe. For the most part, the things that often get the most complaints are things I'm fine with, while the things people seem to like are the ones that ruined the entire experience for me.
I'm fine with the art-style, I'm ambivalent towards the motion controls, and I actually found that the Skyloft and Silent Realm sections, though flawed, were some of the more interesting parts of the game. The dungeons are consistently competent, with a couple of true standouts, and Koloktos really was an awesome fight. And Fi...well, I liked her design, but in this case the general consensus is right.
The problem with this game is that, in almost every area, it is shallow, simplistic, and boring.
The story is shallow, simplistic, and boring. It's badly written, terribly paced, and almost completely lacking in depth, subtlety, or originality.
The gameplay is shallow, simplistic, and boring. The combat is tedious because every battle plays out the same, it's way too easy to game the system, and it never evolves. The game world is far too strung-out, and the repetition of tasks, enemies, and bosses eventually turns even the best concepts into chores.
It's not completely worthless, but the meat of this game is a shallow, poorly-designed mess.
As for Ocarina of Time, the game has its flaws, but almost everything Skyward Sword got wrong, it got right, and then some.
