Weekly hardware sales in Europe have been roughly double that of Japan this year prior to the PS4 release there.  For 2013 European hardware sales were 83% higher than Japan's.  Last generation sold 168 million console and handheld units in Europe.  Only 77 million were sold in Japan.  Not sure how you can say the European market is roughly the same as Japan.  The disparities are even greater if we are talking about the console market.

Wii U in Europe is only 12.6% ahead of Japan for the year so far, and only 35% for the last week of data.  Well below the market size difference.

You're right.  I think when I was typing this I was thinking about all of it in terms of relative to the population size.  Since Europe's population compared to how many buy video games is lower than Japan, I kind of thought of it like that.  

But in terms of how much of the market share each region has, that's right.  But it doesn't really have much to do with my initial argument since I was talking about Nintendo's market share in Japan.

While the Vita did very well in cross generation games (PSP/Vita titles), it seems that the PS4 wasn't nearly as lucky.

On topic though, considering not much released this week I found it pretty interesting. Hardware wise, pretty terrible across the board. I am now of the belief that there are no problems with PS4 stock (since at least some of those sales must be a second shipment, since Knack isn't 100%+ of PS4 sales) so we're only going to see it go downhill from here. Boosts on MGS & FFXIV weeks, but otherwise we're looking at sub 10k.

I'm surprised by how much 3DS is continuing to tumble. Yes, its in its fourth year, but it has also played all of its big guns so I'd have expected it to hold a little better. Still the market leader by miles, but I guess you can really see the effect of smartphones at this point.

Vita is... better than what I was expecting actually, since this boost is presumably due to the "value" pack which actually seems like a bit of a sham since it's just the price of a normal system + memory card and all you get extra is a cleaning cloth and a bunch of pre-loaded demos. It seems now, at least, that the system will continue to be up YoY after March, since these were the two most difficult weeks for it to weather vs. last year.

And WiiU... yeah.  I said last week that we hadn't seen the floor for it yet.  And we've still got a ways to go, imo =/

Software wise... that's not great for Soul Sacrifice. Yes, it's a "G" version, but for franchises with potential growth (i.e. Monster Hunter; God Eater) you usually see the G version perform better. I actually wonder if this will be it for Soul Sacrifice now. Freedom Wars seems to have taken its spot.

Bomba of the week to Ar no Surge, though. Honestly, I was prepping myself for it to do badly - it has a lot going against it. Apparently you need at least a working knowledge of Ciel no Surge, a Vita-exclusive delivered in episodic format with in-app purchases. Not great. Plus, it's not actually an Ar Tonelico game since Bamco decided to run away with the rights to that title, so it can't really draw massively on that fanbase either. Still, though, it's a built-from-the-ground-up game by Gust, I'd expect it to have been pushing 50-60k, not barely reaching 25k.

However, Youkai Watch & GTAV's legs continue to be impressive. One of those is expected (the whole point of the title was to be a cross-media project with the anime); but the other I didn't really expect. Is it just word of mouth pushing it at this point?

This happens with every company. Anyway, Vita and its software sales are still in the bomba territory, like PS4 and Wii U. 3DS is crawling to the dark side too.

PS4 – 35,294,  so PS4 Japan only is gonna be almost like WiiU Global and not so far away from Xbone Global.     I call this domination.

I don't really get posts like this. Given I don't get a lot of Sony fans these days. Given I guess you can look at the glass half full of broken glass.

I think if the show makes it over, they might bring it over as well. 

Is Yo-Kai Watch like some kind of new phenomenon in Japan? The legs on it are insane.
