They won't. And for two reasons. Europe and Japan. Of course, this gen it seems the US may go with the PS4, too.

You underestimate Microsoft's HUGE financial might. They can probably throw the entire development cost of the PS4 into just advertising the One. I actually have a feeling that it might just overtake the PS4 in the USA and UK. Of course, I also believe that Sony will dominate this generation, as Microsoft doesn't make that much of a profit over their Xbox division anyway.
You're Gonna Carry That Weight.
Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC
Microsoft would need more markets outside of America to try and pull what sony did last gen.
I don't get the xb1 = ps3 of this gen analogy
It doesn't make any sense

I think it's pretty obvious that Microsoft is interested in much more gaming. The consoles have never that hugely profitable. but they do get young people's attention. I think Microsoft always saw the Xbox as a gateway to the consumer as opposed to corporations. They want to cut down giants like Apple, Google, and Amazon.
They want to dominate all media not just games. TV, music, and games. Microsoft will be your all in one entertainment solution. I think the Xbox One is a minor setback, and they have five years to design their killer box. .

Dat hint lol
MS doesn't have a chance, because they don't have masterpieces like Knack. Plain and simple.

While I agree that it's highly improbable that MS will be nr 1 this gen, they might be able to turn around and still come out on top, or they could be nr 1 next gen. And I do actually think that MS this time around has a lot in common with Sony last gen; both seemed quite arrogant - but in very different ways. Both screwed up in a major way early on, but if MS drops the price and drops the Kinect... Well... Then we'll have a competition again!
This gen will be a tough one for MS if they want a shot at the top spot, but remember, this is still only barely 6 months in... We got another 6 years ahead of us.
I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!
Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

They got careless and thought that they could maintain their lead, but Sony made smart decisions and they caught up. Microsoft is in the same position Sony was back at the beginning of the 7th generation, priced higher, more difficult to develop games for, and behind in sales, but there's one crucial difference in Microsoft's favor, they have far more money, and they can use that money for extensive marketing, to afford to take a loss on each console sold in order to match or undercut the PS4's price, to found new 1st party studios with top tier talent, to buy 3rd party exclusivity rights, to offer the Xbox One at a subsidized price with cable/satellite providers (playing off the Xbox On'es tv features), etc. The question is, will they use that money to do those things, or will they be content with staying in 2nd place while keeping the Xbox division profitable? |
I think there will be a mandate at MS, that this time Xbox must be profitable if its to stay, this is there 3rd gen it should no longer be about marketshare, it should be a very profitable arm of the company by now.
