Forums - Gaming - Kitase on FFVII Remake:"You must believe me when I say it would take a lot to happen"

Last week, to coincide with the release of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13, Eurogamer asked Final Fantasy series producer Yoshinori Kitase - the person who directed Final Fantasy 7 - if it was, finally, time to say put the possibility of a remake to bed.

"I can honestly tell you I would love to do that," he replied. "If you simply ask me if I personally would like to do that, yes I would. Definitely. There's no lie about it. But you must believe me when I say it would take a lot to happen."

Kitase mentioned "staff availability and budget" as two major barriers to the project being greenlit. This tallies with comments Kitase made in 2010, when he said in order to remake Final Fantasy 7 to the quality of Final Fantasy 13 it would take three or four times longer than it took to develop the divisive PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game.

But there's another major barrier to the project being greenlit: Kitase's personal motivation to create it.

"Even if I casually say I would like to do that, because it would be a huge project I would have to motivate myself to the level that I really am prepared to take on this huge responsibility," he said.

"I don't know if those three things will happen simultaneously. It has to tick lots of very big boxes. I won't rule out the possibility, but it would take a lot to make it happen.

"But should I ever take it on, it would have to be the biggest project I've done. My life work. So I would have to be as highly motivated as that to end up with something I'm very happy with. It's a huge thing for me."

Perfect as it is, don't touch it.

Three times as  long FF XIII though, they really need to get their management in check if that's how it is.

If it would take 3 times longer does that kinda mean that he's saying all the Final Fantasys they are making atm are 3 times smaller? when you look at how linear FF13 is over 7 it kinda makes sense.

I just simply dont believe that, Its a game that has already previously been created, all thats left to do is copy it and remake it with current tech. all the story level design, characters everything is already there for them. It just doesnt make sense his comments

Shut up and do it. Stop beeing the laughing stock of the industry saying you cant remake it.

Theres much more difficult games to make coming out. Just Skyrim on itself is layers more complex than FF7 ever was. The Witcher 3 seems to be alot more complex aswell. Shut up and deliver the goods. You will be happy you did when you see the sales numbers. Just... dont mess it up. Make it true to the original and insert beatiful 3D graphics and cinematics. You can do it.

These guys can be so pathetic. "Oh QQ i need the motivation for it". Its a 2-3 year project. DO NOT make an engine from scratch!  2-3 years of work, you will have the game of your career. I'm sure no one will die.

I mean... its not like you would be locked to FFXIII for 3 titles and almost 7 years! Cmon...

The pressure is stupid though. There is NO WAY they could make it to the requirements of the fans of the FFVII.

Not just the fans, but the hardcore, I cutmyselfforCloud, fans.

The SquareSoft of old might have been able to pull it off, but with the current climate over at SquareEnix? Doubtful and I would rather them not try.

Look at FFXV. Is it that difficult to do that in terms of presentation? Just give us those graphics and keep the combat equal to what it was.Do not overuse voice acting and let the music speak for itself. Try not to mess up the music by changing it too much.

Its not that difficult. People just want the same game on a prettier package.

See.. you all must buy the SE ios and android games so you guys have a slim chance for the FF7 Remake

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

FFVII was just not think for HD.

Even for the time the in game grphics were crappy, and that was fine, because it permitted to do a lot more content.

Anyway a remake wouldn't sell, fans are whores and would bitch about cloud's new face or shit like this.
