So, if this guy can be trusted, (I'm taking it with a huge grain of salt) Witcher 3 will join Battlefield in the "sub-1080p PS4 games" club?

I wish all PS4 games will be sub-1080p. Because the console doesn't have enough horsepower to impress me at this resolution.

I'd take better materials and effects at 900p over worse ones at 1080p any day of the week.

I agree 100%, games can look pretty amazing even at 720p if the assets are improved over a 1080p counterpart.

Exactly. Unfortunately the resolution hype will encourage developers taking the wrong approach. It's a win-win situation for them. Easier to develop yet its what the ignorant average gamer wants. An average gamer will brag about his game running at higher res/framerate yet little does he know that as a result, the actual material is largely unchanged from last gen games.

this is what i think too. although, there would be a problem with AA and image quality at 720p.

Last gen the story was that graphics were good enough already, new gen wasnt really needed but stable framerate, better resolution, improved draw distance, lighting and shadows were welcome.

Sub 1080p games don't impress anymore, you can add all the materials and effects you want, but what's the point if you compromise all of it afterwards with upscaling blur. Sure it looks better in downsized screenshots and you tube videos, not so great on a large 1080p display. There's plenty power to run 1080p and improved geometry and materials. Or do you honestly think Infamous SS doesn't look impressive? And it's still a launch window title.

I rather have they stick to 30fps and remove worthless effects like dof and motion blur than compromise native display resolution. If you build a highly detailed world, then first priority should be to make it possible to see it clearly.

This is no surprise, the Dying Light Dev already said the XB1 SDK is much harder to use so they are not spending the extra time it will take in order to make it 1080p for XB1. I guess this is the same for all multiplat titles (and most XB1 exclusives it will seem) and until MS bring out a new SDK nothing will change.

Interesting enough, if the developer said that about the PS3 vs 360, a lot of people would be calling them lazy and other names.  I guess with the reversal for 3rd party developers, I am expecting to hear 360 fanboys start to take up that mantra.

I disagree, I found Ryse's visuals very impressive at 900p, for instance, and Trine 2 Director's Cut at 720p is still the prettiest game I've ever seen. (Yes, I'm aware it runs higher on PC and PS4, but I haven't seen those with my own eyes)

If you play Witcher 3 on anything but PC you're doing it wrong.

Same can be said about Titanfall.   :)

It could be, but one wonder's why you'd bring it up in a thread that has nothing too do with Titanfall?

It also ignores the entirely different nature of the games, given one relies on a well-established multiplayer gaming network, and the other is single player.

wow, Starcraft a little late to the party don't ya think?   It was a comment for Ben because I knew he was buying TF on PC even though the X1 version still plays well. He wants the best performance of that game which ties into his comment about the Witcher 3 as well. Whether a game is multiplayer or single player is irrelevant, the pc version will look the best of either. One wonders why you would specifically single my comment out as being off topic when Ben's PC comment was the source of it and had nothing to do with either the PS4 or X1 versions. If one is unable to write the word "Titanfall" in a thread without making an Xbox fan uncomfortable, then maybe it's time you rethink your console warz thought process.  Regardless, the conversation between Ben and myself concluded hours ago.  Good day to you...

I find Ryse looking very soft, like an upscaled dvd. Upscaled to 1080p it doesn't look very good to me, for example

Prettiest game atm for me is Windwaker HD, KZ SF and AC4 are impressive as well.
Trine 2 demo looks great on ps4, but I don't like the backlit art style.

Will care when the PC version isn't running at 4K 60fps on my pc.

Says a guy who played Tomb Raider "Definitive" Edition on the Xbone

Where was I supposed to play it? Its only on consoles

I think he meant because the X1 version is the none-definitive definitive version :P

Anyway, definitely a PC buy. Need dem sweet sweet pixels.

People arguing over how "definitive" these 2 consoles are is crazy. PS4 is clearly more powerful but I dont play console games for graphics. That would be silly. I play console games for achievements / friends.

But yet if your playing The Witcher 3 on consoles we're doing it wrong because of "medium settings"  What about other peoples achievements/Trophies and friends?  ironic no?

True and valid point. I was certainly being hypocritical there I can agree.

I guess I just think of Witcher as a PC game. My mistake and apologies.

At it's core The Witcher is a PC game before it's a console game, kind of the same thing with Battlefield. So I agree with you if you can run it on max settings on PC then that's the version you should probably get.

I'm surprised people still treat this as news... or maybe its an opportunity to make the same bad jokes over and over again.

As someone who is still pretty content with 7th gen graphics, I'll be happy with the X1 ports.
