There has been gloating both sides of the fence at any given opportunity, one need only go through lensoftruth comparisons to see it.

But I still think it's worth posting news about the differences between the different versions of the games. Although more worthwhile when we have a technical analysis to go along with them. In the end it's a gaming site. PS fans will post good news for Sony, MS fans will post good news for MS. They will also both post bad news for the other side. It's not the most....dignified way of handiling things, but we all do it. |
I guess I should clarify knowing the differences from technical perspective is rather interesting. Its not like it makes a world of difference when playing the games.
All the childish behavior it leads to though... well I'd like to think there is more to games than high and super high pixel count.

like I said, we're on a website that mainly gets it's traffic from arguing about video games. It's a pretty childish indulgence all by itself. It would be the same if Nintendo or Microsoft were in this position.
Bet with Adamblaziken:
I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
30FPS? GTFO with that last gen crap. Seriously.

It would be, but it's at 30FPS/900p on PS4. PC's the platform for TW3. |
That's IF your PC can run it at 1080p/60fps. Most PC gamers won't be achieving that.
I am the Playstation Avenger.

Even better is 900p or 1920x800/30fps but with more focus on effects and geometry (The Order 1886 approach) Most games from last generation were sub-720p so 900p should still make a significant difference. We know the graphical jump between this generation's beginning and end will not be huge this time due to the architecture being much simpler. It'll probably be a lot quicker to reach PS4's maximium potential than it was with PS3 or even X360. To each his own.. but there is a common misconception that resolution and framerate are EVERYTHING and that if you don't make your game run at 1080p on PS4 it means you're a lazy developer! The irony is sacrificing resolution could be the very opposite of lazy.. |
If you want to go from 30 to 60 fps you need to drop to a lot lower than 900p. In pixel count the difference is 1357x764 to 1920x1080. But you're right it's more work to go for 60fps as if affects all animations.
For 1920x800 it also depends on how it is done whether it frees up that much extra processing power. If they're using a larger fov to expand the image rather than crop it, then the extra visible geometry puts more strain on the rendering engine. It looks like the order is going that way, which is awesome. It's definitely not laziness to choose a correctly implemented 2.4:1 aspect ratio.
I think the graphical jump will still be significant, it will be a while until all 6 cpu cores are used efficiently and until the gpgpu capabilities have been explored. This time optimizations should work almost equally for both platforms, making it more economically viable to go the extra mile. Plus the biggest jumps come from yet to be invented new rendering techniques and tricks that have become possible with the extra memory and processing power.
It would be nice to have native display resolution as long as we're stuck with lcd displays. It didn't matter that much with CRT, but on LCD any non scaled material instantly looks better.
OK, now I know my next PC will have to exceed teh new HD twins specs, but just by a small measure, to run most of the best 8th gen games with excellent settings compared to my current rig, and probably with even lower power consumption and noise (but I'll have to replace my UPS' fan, it's thwarting all my efforts, damn).

Agreed, personally I'd gladly trade pixels for 60 fps. Its funny, people hate last gen resolution but are happy with last gen frame rate. |
Still better than having last gen res and last gen frame rate.

"These games don't run as smooth as I wanted, but its sharp!"
Yeah, I'd rather we see much less 1080p and more 60 fps. Since both machines are disappointing me technically, I'm just setting with enjoying the games.
