Infamous Second Son will look good but that's because the framerate is at 30 and not 60. I would still prefer a lower resolution of say 900p with 60 fps over that. Even better is 900p or 1920x800/30fps but with more focus on effects and geometry (The Order 1886 approach) Most games from last generation were sub-720p so 900p should still make a significant difference.

We know the graphical jump between this generation's beginning and end will not be huge this time due to the architecture being much simpler. It'll probably be a lot quicker to reach PS4's maximium potential than it was with PS3 or even X360.

To each his own.. but there is a common misconception that resolution and framerate are EVERYTHING and that if you don't make your game run at 1080p on PS4 it means you're a lazy developer! The irony is sacrificing resolution could be the very opposite of lazy..

If you want to go from 30 to 60 fps you need to drop to a lot lower than 900p. In pixel count the difference is 1357x764 to 1920x1080. But you're right it's more work to go for 60fps as if affects all animations.
For 1920x800 it also depends on how it is done whether it frees up that much extra processing power. If they're using a larger fov to expand the image rather than crop it, then the extra visible geometry puts more strain on the rendering engine. It looks like the order is going that way, which is awesome. It's definitely not laziness to choose a correctly implemented 2.4:1 aspect ratio.

I think the graphical jump will still be significant, it will be a while until all 6 cpu cores are used efficiently and until the gpgpu capabilities have been explored. This time optimizations should work almost equally for both platforms, making it more economically viable to go the extra mile. Plus the biggest jumps come from yet to be invented new rendering techniques and tricks that have become possible with the extra memory and processing power.

It would be nice to have native display resolution as long as we're stuck with lcd displays. It didn't matter that much with CRT, but on LCD any non scaled material instantly looks better.
