Forums - Nintendo - the Wii u lose

BeElite said:
They shown some incompetence when comes to making Hd games, game development coast shot up and take longer now. they make less of their games now and have no 3rd party sales to fall back on.

Made a awful decision including the currently useless pad, it added unnecessary costs to the console. Id guess the low sales only made the cost per unit go up, low wiiu sale mean lower then expected software sales.

Its one problem adding onto another and another, a wound that will not stop bleeding.

Just because you call the pad unseless, does not make that fact.  I have one and think the pad is ut's strong point.  Playing local two player games split screen is BS, but with the pad I don't have to anymore.  Anyone with friends that like to hang out and play games would agree.

Stop hating and start playing.

.... is there even enough addons and games to blow that much on the U.

wtf did you buy?

One Wii U and enough games to cost up to $700.

I don't know. I'll pull something out of my ass.

--Let's say you make a pie and you want to sell it. You make 100 pies and it costs you one dollar to make each pie. You want to sell them for $2 each. If you sell them all, you'll make $200. Unfortunately, nobody wants your pies because they want cake. You only sell 10 pies. Now, instead of making the $200 you thought you'd make, you only made $20. Meanwhile 90 pies are still on the shelf just wasting away and you'll be lucky if you can even make your money back when you sell them for a discounted price.

TLDR: Nintendo fucked up. Sony and Microsoft are selling cake and that's what the public wants.

Mmmmm, pie.

can somebody explain to me how nintendo could lose money with the wii u?

im looking for informations everywhere, but i couldnt find any usefull.

they must have problems with the production or must have ordered to much chips. they just cant make so much lose on the product, the tech inside is cheap it cant cost 300$ or more. they didnt  spend much on PR last year(they didnt had so many TV ads).

so its mb the game developing. but nintendo is known for makeing relativly cheap games. an the games we saw cant made a lose.

all of the first party games are selling relativly good and dont look to expensive.

pikmin sold 700k. it dont look like a 10m$+ game.

same goes for the other firstparty games.

and the R&D cant be the problem too. its a cheap road nintendo took, its basicly the same system since the GC.

so how could nintendo lose so much money?

it is useless as no game actually needs it nor has Nintendo actually got across why we need it or made a game that makes any one go only possible with this pad.

Thats actually a decent question...

I can say that it has no correlation to what D21 said (overproduction) and I can add that for the system itself, a portion of the cost goes to the retailer and there are also costs such as marketing and R&D consider when discussing the "cost" of a system. Additionally there are costs associated with the upkeep of a company from currency exchange to property upkeep that makes the picture more complicated than how much it costs to make a product vs how much you make selling the product.

EDIT: This is not the place for a "Should Nintendo Drop the Gamepad" debate. That discussion has been had many times elsewhere and I personally don't feel like getting into in every Nintendo related thread...

Well I DID pull it from my ass!  Nothing good has ever come from there.

There do exist kids on this planet ( really, kids. Kidls like 6, 8 10 years old, not 20 year old kids) who don´t have a 50 inch flatscreen in their room. When their parents watch Tv these kids don´t have to stop playing... That´s one advantage of the Gamepad for example..

All I know is that at launch, Reggie was saying the Wii U Pro at $350 was sold at a loss, but if the user purchased even one game (besides Nintendo Land that came bundled), then they make a profit. Now, the Pro bundle is at $300, so it probably takes 2 or 3 games to reach a profit. Maybe people just weren't buying enough games, which could have happened what with the sparse amount of good Wii U games that came out last year.

that shouldnt be the case anymore. if they lost so much at launch, they must have tryed to take the R&D lose fast, so they calculated it in the early sells.

it just dont make sense.

Its the gamepad... It has too many things on it... Theres a webcam, wii mote motion sensor built around the camera, IR blaster, NFC, headphone/headset jack, stereo speakers, accelerometer, gyroscope as well as that 0 latency receiver/sender thing, touchpad and controller functionality... You can kinda see why its so expensive, the gamepad does too much shit and people are not seeing the value of it since most of that is not necessary for most of the games

And on top of that, there is also the console itself and I bet its that 0 latency technology that they partnered with broadcom to make is costing a lot cause it really is amazing when you compare it to just wifi... When you take Nvidia shield with a wireless AC router with 1gbps+ vs the wiiU gamepad, the wiiU gamepad still has lower latency
