No, they wouldn't just leave a huge franchise on the table like that.

Especially a company like epic, whose games are a distant third when it comes to priorities.

Selling their games and selling their services. That's their bread and butter... and that's what epic cares about.

Hell it's why the gears franchise exists. "Look at this cool shit we can do, you can do it too if you use unreal/hire us as consultants."

Without a doubt.  The point of gears is to show off just how kickass the Unreal engine is.

With the Ps4 being the more powerful system it not only would of likely got gears... but could of got it exclusvily.  Probably more likely then not.  Keep an eye on the next epic showcase game.


360 got gears because the PS3's design with the cell was all loopy compaired to the computer based hardware source engine was developed on/for.   Making the 360 the better showcase piece.


Quite honestly, epic probably  hardly cares how it's games sell.

I dont think Microsoft lost out per say but i do think Epic started the PS4 hype to raise Microsofts offer.

You are actually suggesting that Epic wanted to be rid of one of their biggest selling franchises in recent years, considered it worthless and needed to trick MS into buying it? Wow. All I can really say is wow

I am. It looks like alot of posters agree with that idea. Let me ask u? What is epic currently working on? Did the last gears game live up to the hype? Didnt the last gears game basically end the series?

I am very interested to see what epic does next especially now that microsoft basically paid for there next venture.

From what I believe, Epic were probably thinking about releasing the trilogy on all platforms in HD once there contract was up with MS. MS heard about that and then made moves to secure the rights. Its also possible that they stirred it up to increase the cost of the franchise. Either way Xbox wont be losing out because Gears is a fan favourite on Xbox and it will surely bring in the cash. Its also a good system seller.
