From what I believe, Epic were probably thinking about releasing the trilogy on all platforms in HD once there contract was up with MS. MS heard about that and then made moves to secure the rights. Its also possible that they stirred it up to increase the cost of the franchise. Either way Xbox wont be losing out because Gears is a fan favourite on Xbox and it will surely bring in the cash. Its also a good system seller.
