honestly it seems that DKC has always been a game that people bought becasue they have the system, but not something to get a system for.

DKC1 was a MASSIVE hardware mover back on the SNES.

how much did it move? what is massive? did it move consoles cause it was DK? or cause that game released during the holidays where Ninty products usually fly off the shelves anyway? im going to go with the former or a combination of both

It was almost single handedly responsible for the SNES leaving the Megadrive in the dust. Caused a resurgence in SNES sales just when interest was starting to wane due to the arrival of the PS1 and Saturn, gave the console a second wind.

It will help a bit, but in the end it won't help that much.

you keep saying that, but havent provided any data. For all we know all that could have been contributed to holiday sales, hell it might have had a price drop which would have done more for SNES than any game.

It's common knowledge. DKC was hyped to the moon and back, it made the SNES the "cool" system again. Asking for proof of that is like asking for proof of the PS1's impact on the industry; it's well known.

?? thats a terrible comparison. All im asking is for numbers. if you dont have any, its just speculation on your part. You seem to be ignoring that game and alll main DK games have released in the holidays, where the systems would have sold much better ANYWAY regardless of what was out, it being shopping season at all. DKC was not the reason why SNES had a hardware boost that year, actually it wasnt the SOLE reason ill concede to that.

give me a link. YOu still havent provided evidence. Let me put it this way, would DKC have had the same boost had it NOT released in the holidays? say released in a slow period like summer?

The burden's not on me to prove common knowledge. And honestly I can't be bothered googling articles from the mid 1990s, haha.

DKC caused a boost that was independent from price cut or holiday boosts. Those boosts would have continued periodically as they do throughout the lifespan of any console, but DKC was on a whole other level in terms of its impact. The hype machine was monumental, and at the time unprecendented. There's a reason it's credited with allowing the SNES to finally finish its long struggle with the formidible Megadrive.

How can it be independent if the game was released during the holidays? That makes no sense. You cant know for sure unless you could access another timeline where DKC wasnt released during holidays. So its still speculation
